About who needs care: Dad is a 96-year-old Veteran living alone. He was widowed 6 years ago. He was actively out and social until pandemic isolated him. He traveled to Israel just 2 years ago. He has developed some short term memory loss probably due to vascular dementia. He has been extremely healthy until the last year and has lost 20 lbs.-- from 160 to 140 over the last year. He used to walk 1 mile daily, but now sleeps most of the day. He fell just before Thanksgiving 2021, and stayed in the hospital and rehab about 2 weeks. He now seems to have no motivation to do anything. He will still read the newspaper and he will take medication if we call him. But he cannot fill pill boxes. He would like to drive but his doctor says no. He needs someone to come and get him up and going. He can feed himself, but help with his nutrition would be good. He fixes microwave meals pretty regularly and eats cereal. But many days he just lies in bed most of the day. He is interested in politics, with strong views. He is actually quite a story teller and social guy. I think the ideal day would involve getting him up-- bathed, fed, and out of the house to walk or go someplace. He has a good working car. Then get him fed for the evening and settled. 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
About the care needs: I think a female who is conversational would be great. When I took him to Israel, he charmed the younger women. In the hospital and at the doctors office, he seems to liked and enjoyed.
A good listener who will not judge his old fashioned ways or opinions.
He is interested in politics and still seems to follow current events. He attended church for many years prior to pandemic. He is a member of the Scottish Games organization. He used to walk every day and this would be very good to reestablish. He is interested in aviation and aircraft. He was a aviator.
He has some good Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy services available through his insurance. So, someone would could meet with those resources with him would be great.
He is very knowledgeable about real estate and property.
Services needed include: transportation, meal preparation, errands / shopping, light housekeeping, companionship, feeding, and bathing / dressing.
