Stepping Stones Family Care's Photo

Stepping Stones Family Care

47 Clifton Street Malden, MA

9 mi

Stepping Stones is a warm and nurturing community where your infant, toddler, or preschool child will thrive socially and academically. It is a fully licensed daycare/preschool that is run by a BPS teacher and mother of two from a gorgeous and spacious Victorian home across the street from a newly renovated playground and park in Malden, Massachusetts. A little bit about me, the director of Stepping Stones Family Care, my name is Nicole Tamarisk, and I am a mother of two, but I am also a Public School English Teacher with over 8 years of teaching experience. Since Stepping Stones is only offering a total of five spots for prospective clients, the teacher to student ratio will allow me to work closely with each child and his/her family from infancy throughout the toddler and preschool years. This type of setting allows me to support these future scholars as they grow and develop. I am offering mixed aged groups (Infancy through preschool) the chance to learn and thrive in a family environment. For the preschoolers, I plan on providing instruction on letters, numbers, and a curriculum based largely on the Montessori method that fosters independence and a love of learning in children. I also plan to provide yoga, music, and Spanish instruction for the students. I am really excited to be able to continue raising my family and getting an opportunity to be closer to them, while still teaching, which is what I love to do! The daily routine offered here at Stepping Stones will create an environment where your children can experience a variety of planned and unplanned (yet intentional) activities. Your child will thrive under a balance of active and quiet times and in individual and multi-aged group settings. Family childcare settings are usually much smaller than childcare centers and for that reason, the amount of personal attention your child will be receiving will be of the highest quality. As a public school teacher with more than eight years of experience, it is of the utmost importance to me to provide an environment for children where they will learn and thrive. In our circle time children will sit together to sing a song, we will go over the calendar and the days of the week. We will explore a seasonal and/or thematic curriculum that helps kids learn the seasons, holidays, and how to be responsible citizens in their community. Our family care could certainly provide the right stepping stones for your children's future. Please make an appointment today.

During such time, the program includes series of activities that match the children's needs, encourage them to be independent, and help them develop physically, and emotionally. Our program is also designed to encourage the children explore, solve problems, and make them aware of the diversity of the world beyond their home. Three basic tenets of our school: Respect Yourself; Respect Others, Respect Your Environment Our Music curriculum is designed around a composition of international songs, including classical, folk and children's songs. Musical concepts incorporated include: rhythm, pitch, form, dynamics, notation and harmony. The ear training involves singing and rhythmic training directly related to the pieces being taught. Classes include: Developing piano techniques, strengthening dexterity and reinforcing ear training. Children are encouraged to freely explore the keyboard and are guided into improvising, or to creating a composition. Sometimes they simply "play" and sometimes they choose to work on certain pieces in their repertoire. The children regularly perform for one another, and at least once a year, are provided the opportunity to perform at larger concerts for parents and friends. Dress Code The purpose of a dress code is to minimize the influence of superficial matters in a Montessori community that places high value on the healthy development of mind, body, and spirit. A standard of appearance emphasizes the seriousness of our Montessori mission.

Yellow School House's Photo

Yellow School House

996 South St. Boston, MA

3 mi

I am a homeschooling Mom of 3 boys, a first-grader, kindergartner and pre-schooler. When we started homeschooling we lived in a yellow house and called our school the Yellow Schoolhouse, and even though we live in a white house in Boston (Roslindale/West Roxbury area) now, the name has stuck. I began homeschooling because I was not satisfied with the education my oldest son was receiving in one of the "best" school systems in Massachusetts. We have so much fun at the Yellow Schoolhouse. I try to blend traditional teaching with Montessori methods, to hit upon all of my sons' varied learning styles. We cover Spelling, Reading, Math, Science, Social Studies, Handwriting, Creative Writing, Art and Music. We read a lot of children's literature and do tons of hands-on projects. We turn new concepts into games every chance we get. My children are well ahead of their grade levels, and I attribute that mainly to the one-on-one attention they receive on a daily basis. If you have ever thought about homeschooling your child, but didn't know if it was the right fit for you, this may be a great option. I am CORI background checked, first-aid and CPR trained. I hold a bachelor's degree in Political Science from Furman University. I had a successful career as the New England Regional Training Coordinator of a Fortune 200 insurance company. I adore children - I love studying their development, learning styles, and behavior patterns. I believe in empowering children to make great choices on their own, not telling them what their choice will be. I believe in order and boundaries, but I also believe in having a whole lot of fun within those boundaries. I am looking to add 1-2 PreK-2nd grade aged children to our school. My boys will love to have the extra playmate(s) and I will be able to provide your child with an excellent, individualized education. I will provide all the healthy snacks and meals. Hours are possible between 7:30 and 5:30 as needed. $250 per week. A school portfolio and references can be provided. I look forward to meeting you and your child. ouryellowschoolhouse.blogspot.com
