Soon enough they were singing too. This ensured their household was a musical one. While it was a great way to develop, Mike took things into his own hands when he began studying the guitar. He was fortunate to receive training from local heroes Bob Trimble ofThe Sea Turtles, CJ Selzer ofOrbit to Leslieand Craig Thatcher, leader ofCTBandClinician for Martin Guitars. Learning from such talented individuals gave Mike the foundation he needed to grow as a musician. Eventually, he ventured into other instruments such as the bass, drums, and keys, and got more serious about singing. Mike applied these skills as a performer for various bands and ensembles in the Philadelphia area such as Off Duty Cops, Kessel Run and 4L. The stage was not all Mike wanted to make a mark on though. By high school, he was working as a session musician for Hip Hop and Electronic artists across the east coast. Watching the process peaked a curiosity about production and the music industry which drove him to study music and economics at Ursinus College in Collegeville, PA. Mike's studies comprised of music theory, history, and technology as well as learning about marketing, finance, analysis, and management. Personal ambition drove him past the standard curriculum. Through exceptional guidance from his professors, Mike embarked on two independent research projects. Both studies,"The Socio-Cultural Impact of Music"and"The History and Evolution of Music Technology and it’s Subsequent impact on Consumption and Production", can be found on theUrsinus College Online Archive. In addition to acquiring an education, Mike produced his debut record,What [You] Desperately Need, and was an active musician in the Collegeville area. He is especially proud of getting involved withConvergence Music, a nonprofit organization that plans and hosts musical events to benefit theMake-A-Wish of Philadelphia, N Delaware Susquehanna Valley Today Mike continues his performance and session work and is a producer/engineer, operating a studio in Philadelphia. Luke's Music Lessons (Production)

    by Taylor Robinson Music

    Hollywood, FL

Years of Experience: 3 Location Options: In Studio Age Groups: Children, Young Adult Instruments Taught: Record Engineer Produce Overview: I am a graduate of Boston University's Center for Digital Imaging Arts (CDIA) where I studied audio engineering and its many aspects like microphone techniques, mixing, mastering, sound design, live sound, signal flow, etc. I am experienced with multiple DAWs and music software such as Pro Tools, Logic, Abletone Live, and Reason, as well as with both analog and digital boards and hardware. My recording experience ranges from everything from Hip Hop and Jazz to Rock and Pop and I am very open to new styles and ideas. In addition to engineering and mixing, I create and produce Hip Hop (as well as produce other genres) and occasionally work on post production and sound design for film. I moved to Florida from Boston at a young age and because of the vast Hip-Hop scene that I was suddenly immersed in, it wasn't long before I began wanting to rap too and create and record my own music. In early high school I bought my first mic second hand; a cheap USB Samson CO1u, and with a couple of friends, and we began to create our own god-awful music. Then in the summer before my senior year of high school, my mother suggested I take a class relative to my interests in order to help me figure out my impending path out of high school, so I took up a 2-week high school summer course offered by the same Boston University campus I later ended up attending. From the first day I stepped into one of their studios, I fell in love with the environment and atmosphere, and before the course ended, I had decided what career path I wanted to pursue for the rest of my life. Formal Education: Boston University CDIA - Audio Production Experience Teaching: Digital Media Academy - Courses in digital audio production and beatmaking (Lead Instructor 3 Years) Boston Museum of Science Kids Clubhouse - In studio production and mix instruction (Volunteer 3 Years)

My father brought me up listening to people like Jimi Hendrix, Bob Seger, Van Morrison, The Temptations and more. I had a deep love for music all of my life and when he bought me my first guitar at age 11 I was unstoppable from that moment forward. I received four years of private lessons from a Musician's Institute graduate and knew from there that music was all I ever wanted out of life and dedicated my life to studying the guitar and music to one day be able to be like my heroes out on stage. After high school I lived for a year in the real world, never liked it, and moved to Los Angeles to pursue a degree in music from Musician's Institute, which I graduated from in September in 09. I now perform with my original project Typical Situation, as well as having performed with other great acts such asThe Big Joe Hurt Band, Rakoon and Carreyo (Sony/BMG). I have done work for David Coury's Singing For The Actor class as a background musician and more! My main influences are Jimi Hendrix, John Frusciante, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Mark Knopfler, Eric Clapton, Jimmy Page and Philip Sayce. My strongest musical styles are Blues, Rock, Funk, Soul, Hip Hop, Rap, RB and Smooth Jazz. Although with my education I am qualified to teach all other styles. As a teacher I believe that the key to learning the Guitar is to start by creating the finger strength to play, beginning with warm up exercises and some simple scale work to really build up your fingers strength as well as dexterity. Once they are in good shape, only takes about a week or two, I can start teaching how to solo and play chords and build a basic knowledge and understanding of the Guitar and how to use it as naturally as you use your own hands! From there, you'll move on to whatever style of music interests you, while learning how to use techniques from other styles of music to compliment your style of choice! * Formal Education: AA degree in Guitar and Performance, minor Music Business and Sound Engineering from Musician's Institute Private Education: 4 years of private lessons from a Musician's Institute graduate, and the school of hard knocks. Performing Experience: Performed with a wide variety of artists, as well as extensive performing experience during my time at Musician's Institute, some studio session work, and experience playing in some of Hollywoods biggest clubs including the House of Blues and The Whiskey A-Go-Go. Have also played at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino's Wasted Space Club in Las Vegas multiple times. Experience Teaching: Taught children and adults for 2 years during my time in Northern California before moving to Los Angeles to begin school at Musician's Institute.
