After initially starting in choirs, she soon branched out to trumpet, euphonium, violin, and viola, which became her true passion. She has been playing viola for more than 17 years, which led her to win a full scholarship to Boston University Tanglewood Institute in high school, study orchestration and composition at the Scuola Civica di Milano, and earn a B.A. with honors in Music Composition from Brandeis University. Jenn has always believed in a holistic approach to music, incorporating techniques that she has learned from studying everything from Renaissance brass and string instruments to different genres of singing to string quartets, and even free improvisation. She recognizes that every student has different passions, and that one-size-fits-all approaches often don't challenge students to explore these passions. In her teaching, Jenn encourages students to study the kinds of music they love and supports them in developing the techniques and artistry they need to succeed. Jenn's favorite thing about music is the way that it brings people together and allows them to express their innermost selves.
