I have been a performer for eleven years and voice teacher for six. I love all genres of music, and I especially love to sing and teach classical vocal music. My teaching style can best be described as being rooted in both academia and experience. My teaching philosophy is that healthy, classical vocal technique can carry a singer through all genres of music. In my lessons, you can expect to learn about breath support, tone production, musicianship skills, vocal health, repertoire, and much more. I always encourage discussion and collaboration in lessons with my students. My favorite thing about teaching are those “Aha!” moments when a student learns something new about their own voice and their own abilities. I always strive to nurture creativity and self-observation in my students. My hope is for my students to be able to articulate their thoughts and feelings about their voice, and to gain the tools to analyze and self-diagnose as we progress in our lessons. My most memorable performance was in 2011, when I traveled to Costa Rica to play the lead role in the opera “Medée” by Charpentier. It was one of the most challenging and rewarding performances of my life. I had 400+ pages of music to learn in just a month! It was a lot of hard work, but it ended up being such an eye-opening and fun experience. I couldn’t have done it without my foundation of vocal technique and musicianship skills, the very same that I teach my students. I always tailor the lesson to the student’s voice and learning style; I never try to fit a student into a mould that isn’t meant for them. I primarily teach classical vocal technique and repertoire from the Renaissance to Romance eras, but I can also teach musical theatre repertoire. I am also a choral director, and am able to coach students in conducting technique. My approach as a teacher is to listen to my students’ needs and goals, keeping them at the forefront of our lessons. I am completely invested in my students’ progress, and I am proud of their milestones and successes. Thanks for taking a look at my profile. Hope to meet you soon! -Education- Degree: Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance School: University of Texas at Austin Dates: 2011-05 Degree: Master of Music in Choral Conducting and Music Education School: University of Louisiana at Lafayette Dates: 2017-05
