Back-up/short Term Elder Care And Respite Care Provider

I am a Registered Nurse with a BSN. My nursing experience involves telemetry nursing at Tuft's Medical Center and Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. After doing some clinical research at Tuft's Medical Center and enjoying the patient teaching component, I focused on clinical research nursing at Massachusetts General Hospital on their Mallinckrodt General Clinical Research Center, and The Childhood Asthma Management Program (CAMP) at Harvard Vanguard. I also worked at PAREXEL International as a Clinical Research Associate- managing national clinical trials. My favorite part of my clinical research experience was all the patient and staff education required and I loved that teaching aspect and building relationships with my patients and staff. As much as I loved nursing, 16 years ago when my daughter was born, I fell in love with being a mother and have been home ever since! My children are now teenagers and I am interested in going back to work part-time. I became familiar with Care. com this past spring when I was looking for caregivers to give my mother in Maine some respite care. She is 89 years old and had been taking amazing care of my father for years with progressive Alzheimer's Disease and Dementia. She was exhausted and I spent a good part of my spring and summer with them, away from my family, as my mother could no longer manage on her own. My dad eventually was hospitalized as he lost the ability to swallow, and very sadly passed away this summer. I was trying to get them into an apartment setting where a service such as this would have provided mom with much needed assistance, as I was 5 hours away. So, this is my story. My mother needed me or a care provider to assist her. I personally know, had we had the right setting, how useful a care provider would have been to her. Providing elder and respite care takes patience, and kindness. It's so important, and I want to do something that makes a difference. I think it's important to note that I have not practiced nursing in 16 years and that I am offering elder care services, not nursing services. I provide you with my nursing background to describe my experience as a working professional for years in a very emotionally fulfilling and rewarding career. I will be attending Boston College's RN Refresher Certificate Program this winter and spring which will affect my availability. My classes are mostly full days Wednesdays and Thursdays. I also travel to Maine to care for my mother a few days each month. For these reasons, my availability is best for back-up care and short term coverage for your family. I have covered for care provider days off, sick time and vacations, so please keep me in mind should the situation arise.
