Corte Madera Montessori

At Corte Madera Montessori, our goal is to help each child flourish and thrive in their own unique way. Every child comes with their own individual interests, capabilities, and personality. We value and respect the children in our school for who they are today and who they will become.

We believe that children learn best when they get to follow their interests and engage with stimulating and thoughtful hands-on materials. Our teachers are trained in the Montessori philosophy which fosters a joy of learning, supports independence, and enables creative exploration. The Montessori curriculum includes learning to read and write, understanding and working with numbers, the arts, and knowledge of science, nature and geography.

We also believe that children are happiest when they feel like valuable contributors to their communities. Whether helping a friend or taking care of the classroom, we provide children with opportunities to take responsibility for themselves and others. Children develop empathy, kindness, and respect for the things and people in their environment.

This mission and philosophy has guided Corte Madera Montessori since Daniel Sapien founded the school in 1992. Daniel continues to be a meaningful part of the school, playing his guitar for the children, teaching children chess, and planning our school wide celebrations like Halloween and Earth Day.
