I specialize in tutoring elementary school math. I help students gain a strong foundation in elementary math, as well as the confidence and skills to succeed as they encounter more difficult problems. I've also co-taught 6th grade algebra, so I understand their trajectory of learning. I also tutor Spanish, which I became fluent in while studying abroad in Costa Rica. I am a certified elementary school teacher who has taught literacy and math to small groups, as well as touching on all the content areas through teaching ESL. I've tutored off and on since I was in high school; individualized learning provides the fastest route to success. My philosophy is to tutor the whole person, as well as the subject. I bridge between students' natural motivators and learning styles and their learning goals. I help students learn processes that will support them throughout their lives and accelerate their growth. Tutoring is how I first discovered my love of teaching. Even though I teach full time in Denver, I still really love the experience of working one-on-one with students and seeing how quickly they grow! I have been working as an education professional for 14 years and as a tutor for even longer. I spent 11 years in special education (teaching students with autism) and, after a career change, I am now in my fifth year of teaching high school math. In the past 5 years of teaching, I have taught Geometry, Algebra II, Integrated Math III, Pre calculus, AP Calculus, Probability and Statistics, Financial Algebra, and SAT Prep. It s been a busy 5 years, but all of that hard work has made me a very versatile math teacher and tutor! Additionally, I have several years of experience tutoring in English Language Arts and Writing, French, Biology, Anatomy and Physiology, Test Preparation, and General Study Skills.
