Welcome to Mulberry Farm Daycare! We operate our daycare in my charming 120 yr old farm house. The daycare sits on a pretty 1.3 acre lot, where a canopy of tree's cover most of the yard. We are conveniently located next to La Fox train station, just west of the Millcreek Elementary School. We are also in close proximity to the Kaneland School District. My name is Shelley Ost and I run this small daycare from my home. I am a certified in home daycare provider and a 200 hr registered children's yoga teacher. I am British and I have been in the US for about sixteen years. Our daily schedule consists many things. We cover Kindergarten readiness preparation, such as practicing hand writing, using scissors, number/letter recognition etc. We also have unstructured play time which is essential for social and emotional development for school. We bake, paint, garden, dig in the mud, use the sand and water tables, and play many outside games so the children get a good amount of physical activity and fresh air. We gather the chicken eggs, look after the animals and have many teddy bear picnics. Arts and crafts are a favorite of the children and we love creating new things every day. We are a special little daycare. We have very small numbers of children here and we like to create a warm and nurturing atmosphere. The children become an extension of our family, and the families become our friends. We keep goats, chickens, ducks, two small dogs and a cat. The children help take care of the animals, and &quot;farm life&quot; is interwoven in to our daily schedule. Caring for the animals provides countless opportunities for the children to learn about life, nature, health etc. Being outside is very important to us, and we spend as much time out in nature as the weather allows. Due to a few of my daycare children starting preschool, I currently have two openings. These spots are available for children aged two and above. My favorite thing to do is see my day care family's children smile when they learn new things that they are capable of doing. There is no joy greater than seeing a child accomplish new things. I teach ABC's, numbers, shapes, colors, and always have a science project going. We keep busy with games, crafts, art, and hands on discovery. My daycare children do not want to go home at the end of the day. I love what I do.
