Education, Exploration, and Excitement--The Children's Hour Academy Looking for a safe and nurturing small private daycare and school? The Children's Hour Academy is the community for you! At The Children's Hour Academy, we believe in developmental appropriateness, academic stimulation and education, continuity of care and most importantly, atonement. Our class sizes are small and we nurture the whole child regardless of age. We concentrate on three components of a child: the social and emotional development, the intellectual development, and the spiritual development. Our school is unique in that we embrace the children and the families--this is a focus of love, education, and care. Our mission is to serve infants, children, and their families with unparalleled developmental opportunities. Nurturing, educated, and experienced teachers structure learning environments that are conducive to a child's individual nature. By being attuned to every child, a bond of trust is formed; that is the foundation for our Continuum of Care Philosophy. This will be achieved while maintaining the highest level of respect, safety, and accountability. Our extended hours (7 am-6 pm) and our included breakfast, lunch and snacks accommodate working parents. In addition, we offer Spanish for preschool through kindergarten students. This academy has to be seen to be believed! Our names are Mary and Maggie Koreen. We are 24 years old and have worked together taking care of people both young and old. We prefer to work together as a "nanny share" and ask that we are paid a flat rate. We find it easier to multitask especially when taking care of young children. Our passion for childcare started when we were in high school, volunteering for elementary schools. After graduating, we nannied/babysat for multiple families, mostly caring for toddlers and young children. Last year, we began a position in an infant center. We gained the most experience in Early Childhood Education through this teaching position, attending bi-weekly trainings on quality care. After 6 months working in that position, we were promoted to preschool teachers in our own class. Thanks for reading! We hope to hear from you

In-Home daycare
I provide loving, family-oriented care to kids from birth through age 12. Care is available full-time, part-time, or before-after school. A walking school bus from Arleta school to our home is available for kids in after-school care. Care is available 7:45 AM until 6 PM, M-F. For school-age kids, extended care is available on late-start Wednesdays and on teacher in-service days. Art, crafts, cooking, creative learning, music and active outdoor play, and homework help are all important elements of our program. While we have many structured activities, I believe that kids need to be provided the materials and safe opportunity to explore their world in a creative way. Friendship skills are emphasized. On full-days, two snacks and lunch are provided at no additional cost. After-school kids receive a snack. I make every effort to provide healthful food with an emphasis on fruits, vegetables, lean protein and organic dairy. When possible, food is locally sourced and organic. Meals and snacks are served family style, with instruction on appropriate table manners and conversation. I can accommodate special dietary needs within reason but this may result in additional cost. Christian education - bible memory and stories - is available on an opt-in basis. I am a warm and loving 50-year old single mom of a 12-year old and a 10-month old. I am seeking state certification (scheduled for completion fall 2011) and am a certified foster parent who has cared for 11 kids aged 3 days through 12 years, many of whom had special needs. I believe that every child has the right to be loved and appreciated for his/her unique character and gifts, and encourage kids to learn through play and service. I am open at this location through December 23, then will be moving to a new location and reopening January 3. The new location is yet to be determined but will be in the same neighborhood. I welcome your questions and the opportunity to discuss how our care might meet the needs of your family and child.

After working in daycare and preschool settings for the last ten years, I have experienced working with many of the different philosophies related to teaching Early Childhood Education. I received my degree from University of Oregon in Psychology with an emphasis on Early Childhood education. I enjoyed researching the developmental stages of children. I found it especially interesting to compare how the different philosophies used for Early Childhood Education, did or did not seem to relate to children's development. With my experience, I did not feel that just one philosophy was necessarily the best. Every child is different, and so it makes sense to think that different teaching styles need to apply to accommodate to different children. Now that I am creating my dream of starting my own school, I decided to combine my personal experience working with the different philosophies, as well as my education and training on the development of children, to create my own curriculum.
