Very Caring, Experienced Companion, Caretaker And Driver For Your Family Member Part Time
I have been caring for my elderly father with Alzheimer's Disease for the past 5 years. This hands-on experience has taught me a great deal about how to communicate, provide enrichment (fun outings and projects), driving to doctor's appointments and other basic needs. I will provide the same compassionate, respectful and playful care I have provided for my father.
The first step is really getting to know your loved one and creating a plan based on his/her interests and past experiences. My goal: to bring joy, create a connection and help him/her feel safe & cared for.
I spent several years as a Children's Librarian. I created lively story times that stimulated children's thinking, stirred up their passion for learning (and life), fostered friendships with other children, and nurtured their self-confidence. I believe we are all children at heart and I have found that my experience with kids has prepared me for working with the elderly.
About me: I grew up in a loving family of six children. I am married with four grown children (my youngest just left for college). I am a graduate of the UNC School of Journalism and have served as a newspaper editor, communications director for non-profits, and a librarian. Currently I am a part time floral designer. In my free time I enjoy gardening, photography, making things, hiking, and playing with our pets.
