Companion Caregiver

I was a full-time caregiver for my mom, who had dementia, for 3 years, assisting with ADLs and safety precautions. I was also POA for multiple family members. In addition, I was a part-time caregiver to my dad, who had Alzheimer's, and a court-appointed guardian to a cousin w/multiple medical issues. Throughout this period, I also assisted another family member, in order for her to remain in her home. I was a recent companion caregiver to a female client, until she was hospitalized for acute medical issues. The feeling of self-satisfaction and the significance of my care-giving were confirmed each and every day. It was a distinct honor to work with these individuals. In addition, throughout the course of a day, I also played memory games, listened to favorite artists, played cards, went for long walks, prepped meals, assisted with bathing, managed ADLs/medications and transported people to doctor appointments. I have a genuine admiration for seniors... my grandmother lived to age 110!

June was a very knowledgeable, experienced caregiver for my mother at a nursing home. She kept me informed always. Along with helping feed Mother and just being good company for her, June went the extra steps to truly understand what Mother needed or would like. They went for walks and visited others. Whatever it took, June was there to help make her as comfortable as she could. She would interact with Mother and engage her in things I was not successful doing. Not only did Mother like her, the staff at the Home appreciated her too. Just a terrific lady.

I have experience working with my own elderly parents as well as other elderly individuals that are not related to me including those with dementia concerns. The services I am willing to provide are: companionship, meal preparation, grocery shopping, running errands, transportation, accompanying to appointments, cleaning, cooking, laundry, medication management, grooming, and dressing. I am very passionate about this type of work because I care for the well being of this age group and have comparable experience. Simply put: I enjoy it! Although I do not have a motor vehicle check and criminal background check through care. com, I hold a current foster parent license and have been well vetted through these checks and others. References are available upon request.

I am writing this note of recommendation for Michelle J., who was my care taker from Care.com for two months. Michelle was always kind and compassionate. She completed light household chores, did my grocery shopping, and weeded my garden. She encouraged me to do more exercises to help me deal with my Parkinson's disease and took me to doctors' appointments. In addition, she took her job seriously and was dependable, flexible and positive. I loved seeing photos of her family and sharing my family with her as well. I would rate Michele as a first-class aide! Sheila M. August 23, 2020
