    Ross's Music Lessons (Drum)

    by Taylor Robinson Music

    Athens, GA

Years of Experience: 13 Location Options: In Studio Travel Radius: 50 Genres: Rock, Blues, Jazz, Classical Age Groups: Children, Young Adult Instruments Taught: Drum Lessons Overview: I have been playing drum set and percussion for over 12 years. My earliest influences were mostly classic rock legends including John Bonham, Neil Peart, Carl Palmer, Bill Ward, Phil Ehart and Ginger Baker, which in turn meant that my early playing was deep in rock territory. As high school came to an end, my tastes and influences had widened to include newer rock drummers such as Jon Theodore, Danny Carey and Josh Freese, older, more obscure drummers like Micheal Giles, Bill Bruford, Alan White, Buddy Miles and Billy Cobham, and my interest in jazz began to grow. Through four years of studying jazz in college, my influences have grown to include many of the great jazz drummers of the last century, such as Art Blakey, Elvin Jones, Max Roach, Phillie Joe Jones, Buddy Rich, Gene Krupa, Dannie Richmond and Connie Kay, as well as jazz vibraphone players Lionel Hampton, Milt Jackson, Bobby Hutcherson and Gary Burton. As a teacher, I feel it is important for students to understand the rich history of music through their own performance, draw comparisons between the past and the present, and dig into their own influences to create a unique sound and style. I like to teach by playing examples either in person, via a recording or with musical notation. My foci for teaching include motion control and conservation, application of rudiments to drum set, style and genre basics, soloing and comping, all of which can be molded around each student's individual goals and desires. * Formal Education: West Jackson Middle School 1999-2002: Percussionist Jackson County Comprehensive High School 2002-2006: Percussionist, graduated with a college/technical prep degree Valdosta State University 2006-2010: Graduated with BMA in Music Performance with an emphasis in Jazz Private Education: John LaMattina, drum set: 2000-2003 Dan Orchick, drum set: 2004-2005 Paul Campiglia, drum set and percussion: 2006-2010 Performing Experience: Jackson County Comprehensive High School: Member of the Wind Ensemble, Jazz Ensemble and Marching Band drumline Valdosta State University: Member of the Blazin' Brigade Marching Band drumline, Percussion Ensemble, Steel Drum Band, Jazz Ensemble, Jazz Combo, Wind Ensemble, VSU Opera, Valdosta Symphony Orchestra, VSU Drama Dpt. Julius's Music Lessons (Piano, Production)

    Orlando, FL

Years of Experience: 5 Location Options: In Home, In Webcam Travel Radius: 20 Genres: Rock, Blues, Jazz, Country, Acoustic, Christian, RB, Gospel, Pop Age Groups: Children, Young Adult, Adult Instruments Taught: Keyboard and Piano Lessons,Record Engineer Produce Overview: Hi, my name is Julius and I am a graduating physician living in Orlando but originally from London, England. I have been involved in music and music production for over 15 years. My musical influences include Oscar Peterson and Robert Glasper and I also enjoy all types of genres. My teaching style can best be described as focused, tailored and in-depth. My teaching philosophy can best be described by saying that nothing cannot be learned or understood if taught correctly. In my lessons, you can expect to learn enough music theory together with closely-guarded tricks that will allow you to seamlessly play at a very higher level. You can also expect to learn how to play-by-ear or read music scripts easily. I like to tell my students that I can help them drastically improve within weeks but all I ask for is their attention and willingness. My favorite thing about teaching is the opportunity of taking an average student and watch them transform into an advanced student. My favorite performance was in London where I was a musical director for a choir of 60 and performed at an iconic hall in Central London to an audience of over 2,000. My students love that I am able to squeeze my 15 years of musical knowledge into a simplified and succinct form that aids easy understanding, assimilation and application. I primarily teach jazz/gospel/contemporary piano, but I can also teach all styles of piano playing. My approach as a teacher is to ascertain the level of my student, and make clear his or her goals and tailor my teaching style to that particular student. In other words, my teaching style is holistic and student-centered! Thanks for taking a look at my profile. Hope to meet you soon!
