About who needs care: My 86-year-old sister is caring for her 89-year-old husband who has dementia and broke his hip recently. They have round the clock aids but my sister needs someone to help with light meals, light house keeping, errands, transportation, sometimes watching her husband, and doing small things to make her life easier, whatever that may be.
About the care needs: My sister would do best with a person who was good at seeing what needed to be done since its hard for her to tell people what to do. On the other hand, someone who is bossy would not be good. She needs a person who communicates clearly so there aren't misunderstandings. She wears a hearing aid and finds it difficult to understand people whose first language isn't English. Someone who is more on the quiet side would be appreciated. It would be a wonderful bonus if the person could use an iPad or was a little bit technically able to help with
Phones and devices. For example, if someone could help set up an audio book for her husband to listen to or read to him or visit with him a little, that would be helpful. There is 24 hour care from aids but because her husband has dementia, he is very needy and sometimes having 3 people helping is a blessing. These are the observation of me, her sister. If she were filling this out it might be a little different, but I'm starting the process and think shell be able to contribute at some time soon.
Services needed include: transportation, meal preparation, errands / shopping, light housekeeping, and companionship.
