    Gerard's Music Lessons (Drum)

    by Taylor Robinson Music

    Dallas, TX

Years of Experience: 30 Location Options: In Studio Travel Radius: 50 Genres: Rock, Blues, Jazz, Classical, Country, Acoustic Age Groups: Children, Young Adult, Adult Instruments Taught: Drum Lessons Overview: The best cure for a sluggish mind is to disturb its routine. [William D.] Hello. I'm a professional musician, composer, and teacher of drumset/snare drum. Been doing both for 2+ decades. I've recorded, performed, and toured here in the USA and in Europe. Started my schooling in France (w/Alan Silva)and finished up at UNT (Music Performance) in Denton (w/Henry Okstel, Rick Latham, etc). I've played Jazz and Bebop, Top 40, techno/electronika/rave, rock, heavy metal, blues, Greek Middle Eastern, some symphonic, pop, various avant-garde styles, "nuevo" flamenco, funk, hip-hop, latin, folky singer-songwriter, reggae/dub, drum 'n' bass, totally improvized music, CW, and even lizard lounge styles. Currently accepting students from beginner to advanced. Age range of my students= 6 yrs old to early 50's... Beginning students are those that don't know anything about playing drumset except for the fact that it seems like it would be a fun thing to do. Maybe they have a drumset, maybe they don't. (If you don't have a drumset I can help you find one without breaking the bank...). Maybe they want to further hone the skills that they're learning in school music programs, ie. reading skills, snare drum skills, the rudiments... Intermediate drummers to Advanced drummers are those drummers that have been playing for a while and have realized that there may be more to playing the drumset than they're currently capable of or even aware of. This includes conceptions of drumming and music, 4-limb inter-dependence, and music styles that may seem "mysterious"...like Bebop (Jazz). Maybe they want to learn how to read and write. These drummers may have a pretty decent handle on things, maybe play in a band, or have played in several bands but feel like their lack of technique (like stick control, limb control, phrasing, syncopation) is holding them back. They may feel they've "reached a wall" in their technical abilities and/or their musical abilities and expression: same old licks, same old beats, same old fills, etc. Self-taught drummers may feel the desire to develop more of the "formal" training into their playing (the rudiments, reading, ear-training, snare drum chops, Jazz syncopations/chops, odd meter playing, "flow", etc). Maybe they just want the input of a teacher who ca

    William's Music Lessons (Piano, Vocal)

    by Taylor Robinson Music

    Dallas, TX

Years of Experience: Around 30 years experienc Location Options: In Home Genres: Rock, Blues, Country Age Groups: Young Adult, Adult Instruments Taught: Keyboard and Piano Lessons,Vocal Lessons Overview: I was born in Dallas and grew up in different cities in Texas and Arizona. I’ve been singing and playing keyboards and harmonica in rock roll and blues bands since age 17. I spent a few years touring on the road where I worked with some amazing and talented people before I went to college where I studied art and music. I moved back to Dallas after graduation and have played in various rock and blues bands for many years. During the last decade, I have given lessons to people who wanted to advance their skills at keyboard and harmonica and singing without lots of drills and exercises. I don’t teach with sheet music. I try to give people the tools to learn songs by understanding their instrument and training their ear to understand what they’re hearing and how it translates to their instrument. I like to take on students who want to learn this technique. It’s a fun and hands on way to get right into the music if you’re a beginner, an aspiring performer or just want to improve on your instrument or improve your singing. I use only electronic keyboards and do not own a standard piano or organ. Over the years I’ve found it important to be as mobile as possible. Formal Education: Art, B.A. (Texas Tech 1980) Music, B.A. (Texas Tech 1980 Private Education: I have worked with some amazing and talented people over the last 30 years or so both performing and in the recording studio. I have learned more from them than I could any private tutor. Performing Experience: Irsquo;ve performed in Rock and Blues bands full and part time for over 30 years including a few years touring the U.S. Experience Teaching: I've been teaching for about ten years. It started when people seeing me perform would ask me to give them a few pointers. They liked my teaching style and it just grew from there from mainly word of mouth. -Reviews- Name: Date: 2016-02-13 15:35:25 Title: Review from Graham D. Jackie's Music Lessons (Vocal)

    by Taylor Robinson Music

    Dallas, TX

Years of Experience: 32 Location Options: In Home Travel Radius: 15 Genres: Rock, Blues, Jazz, Classical, Country, RB Age Groups: Children, Young Adult, Adult Instruments Taught: Vocal Lessons Overview: Jackie first knew she had a gift at the age of ten, although she was five when she held her first microphone. Growing up as an only child, Jackie spent much her time listening to music mimicking and singing along to great entertainers such as the Temptations, Gladys’s Knight The Pips, Earth, Wind Fire, Muddy Waters, and B.B. King. As a teenager, Jackie discovered a completely new and different world of music. During her teenage years, new sounds began to hit the airwaves like Rap, Heavy Metal, Rock, Rock and Roll, and Country (when it was country). Jackie was not the typical black teenager who limited herself to just one genre. She had to feel it all. She knew her root stemmed from RB, Blues Soul, but new sounds where around. Jackie received inspiration from Gun’s Rose’s, James Taylor, Karen Carpenter, Jimmi Hendrix, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, and anything that caught her attention. That was back in the day when the music was real. The instruments were all played live and were paired with good old-fashion stage entertainment, when singer really sang. Those where the good ole days. Jackie has been a part of the music through different generations. She has had the honor of singing on the same stage with some of music’s great names such Cookie McGee, Big Foot Johnson, Blue Lisa, Blind Sam (RIP), Buddy Miles, Chuck Rainey the list could go on with different sounds and genres that she has experienced in music. Jackiehas quite a singing background. She has performed with one of the biggest names in music …Barry Manilow. She has participated and sang in sold out events all over the country including venues like The Starplex, Scotts Centers, Academy of Arts and Letters, Majestic Theaters, Convention Centers. Through experience, Jackie has develop her own mixed and versatile ways of expressing music, bringing to light her unique interpretation of music. Jackie says she cannot put her music in a certain category or genre. She can only go where the music takes her. She just wants her music legacy to be a good, wholesome, and long lasting image and one day to be considered in the same class as her past time favorites. Jackie wants her music and her voice to continue to warm hearts twenty years from now. She wants to be like Miss Tina Turner, Gladys’s Knight, Michael Jackson (RIP), Prince, Luther Vandross (RIP), Queen Aretha, James Brown (RIP), Isaac Hayes (RIP) Freddy Mercury (RIP), and John Lennon (RIP) who are all pioneers and prime examples of what good music is all about. Performing Experience: Performed extensively locally for many, many years, including with TRMC founder Taylor Robinson. Experience Teaching:

    Dallas, TX

Years of Experience: 17 Location Options: In Studio, In Webcam Travel Radius: 30 Genres: Rock, Blues, Jazz, Classical, Country, Acoustic, RB, Pop Age Groups: Children, Young Adult, Adult, Under 6 Years Instruments Taught: Guitar Lessons,Bass Guitar Lessons,Song Writing Lessons,Record Engineer Produce Overview: I was born in 1981 in Dallas, TX as the fifth generation of a family of artists and musicians. I grew up in a household environment that had paintings and instruments everywhere; but it wasn’t until I turned 11 that I was inspired to pick up the electric guitar and learn the alternative rock riffs and sounds of the day. I started playing a nylon string guitar for a music class at school since I had no desire to play recorder, and met my first jamming buddy and we formed our first band. All this time I was absorbing the sounds of the nylon string guitar through the music of Ottmar Liebert, Gypsy Kings, Segovia and Sabicas that my parents listened to, so I decided to undertake the task of teaching myself sight reading and classical guitar technique. I was accepted to Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts as a music cluster student. Once I was there I attended workshops w/ concert artists, played solo recitals, as well as with various ensembles, and even formed a jazz-fusion-rock band with my peers. Following years of jazz studies and private classical lessons, I received a full scholarship to attend SMU as a classical guitar performance major with Robert Guthrie, the master student of the Romeros and Segovia. I completed my studies and earned my BFA at SMU in 2005. I began to pursue a professional career as an artist collaborating on several recording projects for soundtracks and albums, solo gigs, in addition to, performing locally as a member of several Swing, Jazz, and Rock bands. I have performed at local festivals such as ArtFest, The Swiss Avenue Historic District Home Tour, and at many other local events and venues. In 2008, I realized one of my greatest passions is to instruct the guitar and pass the knowledge of its sublime musical language, proper technique and posture to future generations. My students have competed in UIL competitions and have been accepted to the music cluster of Booker T. Washington, University of North Texas, and most recently the Master’s Program of Berklee School of Music in Valencia, Spain. Formal Education: High School: Booker T. Washington School for the Visual and Performing Arts Music Cluster ; Bachelors of Fine Arts : Souther Methodist University, 2005 Private Education: Electric and Rock Guitar Studies w/ Brad Maclemore 1, Jazz and Theory Studies w/ Chuck Pangburn and Kent Ellingson 1, Classical Guitar Studies w/ Robert Guthrie 1. Bands I've played at such events as Dallas Artfest, and with bands including the Three Quarters Fast Dixieland Band, the Southland Swing Band, Lynch Perry w/ drummer David Lynch, the Monoliths of Phobos, Constellation Flight, SpaceKraft and many more. Body: I took classical and flamenco guitar lessons from Perry from 2012 to 2016. These four years of my life have been nothing short of a mind-blowing experience. Perry introduced me so many different types of music, expanded my knowledge, understanding and intuition of the guitar. I noticed my musicianship exponentially improve thanks to his guidance. He had been an incredibly patient and perceptive teacher during my years of learning. Last but certainly not least, Perry has been a source of deep musical inspiration for me. It was under his tutelage, that I became energized to pursue my passion for music by enrolling in the Berklee College of Music Master's degree program, as a music producer. Name: Kim Kelly Date: 2016-09-13 14:09:56 Title: Perry N Body: Thank you for reaching out about Perry. He has been teaching my daughter to play guitar since 1/5/13, and he has been working with me since November. My daughter is now 10 and was 7 when she started. She has built tremendous strength and aptitude for sight reading, keeping a steady rhythm and developing musicality and emotion into her playing over time. Perry's style is extremely professional. He is incredibly reliable and punctual. He provides Myra with different styles to influence her range of options. He has brought music and suggested progressive learning books to choose from. He challenges Myra while not frustrating her, and they gradually increased her lesson time from 30 to 60 minutes as she built the aptitude to play for longer periods of time. Perry does a great job of mixing scales with chords with picking, and provides a range of ways to achieve the same sounds with minimal stress to her body structure. In addition, Perry takes the time to teach theory and history so that she has a well rounded perspective of the art. There are days when she is not at the top of her game, and Perry recognizes this- on those days he tries to have fun and just allow her to jam. I love listening to the two of them together. They have built a solid relationship around their mutual love of music and the guitar. We've had the fortune to see Perry play at one of his local gigs, and his talent and professionalism always continue to impress me. I fully recommend Perry for this job and hope that his is considered as a strong candidate. Kim Kelly Name: Nic Fatemi Date: 2016-09-20 05:10:27 Title: Perry - classical and flamenco Review Body: I've been working with perry for more than a year and half. He is musically very talented and has a great foundation of musical knowledge that is difficult to come across these days. He is very flexible and patient with any musical level. Simply put, he works with you and where get to on the guitar. I have studied flamenco and classical guitar underneath him. He also teaches other types of styles ( electric rock, chords, jazz and etc...) He has been playing guitar since a very young age and has studied under other great guitarists(academically). He shares all of his knowledge with his students that was taught to him plus more!! I have played violin for 14 years into university. I was looking to learn guitar and Perry was recommended to by a co-worker. I can recognize he is a quality teacher with passion for music a mile away. Lastly, he is a honest individual and carries himself professionally. I highly recommend him!
