I have been a student of music for 17 years. My musical influences include James Taylor and I also enjoy Led Zeppelin. My teaching style can best be described as observant. I like to watch the way my students learn because not everyone learns the same way. I like to see what works and what doesn’t for each individual student. My teaching philosophy can best be described by saying that learning is a process of mostly mistakes. The best thing to do is learn from them. In my lessons, you can expect to learn whatever you need to be successful. If you are a beginner, you can expect to learn basics first. If you are experienced, you can expect to enhance your skills perfect all of the little things. I like to tell my students practice makes perfect. It’s a cliché, but it’s a true cliché. My favorite thing about teaching is watching progress. I love seeing how far my students have come. I keep folders for each student in chronological order with what we have learned. It’s so inspiring and fun to see how far students come in such short amounts of time. My favorite performance was street performing in Michigan. It was in a town called Grand Haven during the Coast Guard Festival. There were so many tourists and they had so much energy. My students love that I joke around and care. I genuinely care about what my students want to learn and about what their goals are. I joke around during lessons to ease stress and make it fun. I primarily teach percussion, but I can also teach guitar. My approach as a teacher is to learn and grow with your students. I learn just as much from my students every day as they do from me.
