I first did digital recording of drums in history with inventor of the digital audio Tape machine, Dr. Thomas G. Stockham, at the University of Utah computer science Lab in 1975. I was awarded the first 4 year scholarship ever to be given to a percussionist by the University of Utah in 1978. I was also awarded a set of Zildjian Cymbals, by the Zildjian Cymbal Co, for being the most outstanding drummer out of over 150 college jazz ensembles from all over the western United States at the Orange Coast College Jazz festival in Costa Mesa California in 1978. I moved to Denton, Texas to attend the University of North Texas. I studied under Dan Hearle and Rich Matteson. I have played professionally in Dallas and Ft Worth until 1986 when I moved to Oakland California. There I recorded with Gutarist Calvin Keys on the Cd called "Calvinesque for the Siverado lable. I also recorded with pianist Ed Kelly singer Faye Carol, Pianist Al Tanner. I performed with the late blues artist Charles Brown , who is most well-known for the the hit "Merry Christmas Baby". In 1996 I returned to Dallas and performed with Smokin Joe Kubek. * Formal Education: I attended the University Of Utah and the University of North Texas. Private Education: I was taught by Jan Hyde in Salt Lake City, Utah and Chuck Brown in Novato, California. Performing Experience: I began substituting for Jan Hyde at age 18. I performed with Utah Symphony and did freelancing work in Dallas Texas 1979-1986. From 1986 to 1996 I played in Oakland California with Gutarist Calvin Keys, Pianists Ed Kelly, Bill Bell Richard Kermode, saxiphonist John Handy, bassist Fred Marshall,singer Faye Carol and numerous blues bands througout the East Bay. I performed at the Montery Jazz featival with Ed Kelly. I have traveled with Smoking Joe Kubek Bnios King all over the United States. Experience Teaching: From 1975 to 1978 I taught at Al Weight Studios Salt Lake City, Utah. From 1980 to 1981I taught lessons in FT Worth, TX on Saturdays while I was playing six nights a week at a club off camp Bowie in Ft Worth called JR's Place. I taught lessons in Oakland from 1986 to 1996. I am currently teaching drums privately.
