I view care for the elderly as meaningful work that is service to the client as well as service to God. I live in my parents' home. They are 90 and 92. I drive them everywhere they go. My mom is in a wheelchair and can transfer, but not walk for more than a few steps. I am very comfortable transporting a client for errands, shopping, etc. I help my parents with daily tasks that allow them to stay in their home, instead of having to move to a nursing home.
I worked at Generations of Chapin Assisted Living as a med tech and caregiver for 3 years and did private sitting for a client with Alzheimer's. I had CNA certification, but it has expired because I worked outside of healthcare for a time.
I just finished an assignment for Key Choice Home Care of Lexington for which I took care of a total needs 4-year-old client who needed to be suctioned, needed incontinence care, had a nebulizer and a pediatric G-tube. I took care of her for 7 months until she got too heavy for me to lift.
