About who needs care: My mom was diagnosed with Lewy Body Dementia in Feb 2023. She has had a period of deterioration so is struggling muchmore and my dad, who is her full-time career, is finding it difficult to cope. I would love to find someone to help her throughout the day to give her someone else to talk to and to give my dad a break so he can look after himself as well. I'm ideally looking for someone who would be comfortable sitting with my mom and doing mind-stimulating activities with her like exercise, memory games, painting, writing. Also, perhaps some to help make her a light lunch or just set her up with lunch? My mom worked as a registered nurse literally up until her diagnosis, so was quite shocked by the drastic change her diagnosis brought. She was incredible at her job and loved her work. Most importantly, she was passionate about helping others so I would love to find someone who has the same caring passion as she does.
About the care needs: I think the most ideal type of caregiver would be someone who is patient, upbeat and talkative. Due to her diagnosis and deterioration, my mom moves and processes things very slow. She also has a difficult time talking, in which she struggles to get her words out. She knows what she wants to say but can't get them out so I always remind people to encourage her to keep trying and avoid finishing her sentences. My biggest concern at the moment is that she is becoming quite depressed as she doesn't have much to do or places to go, which is largely due to her significant fatigue. So it would be great to have someone upbeat around to keep her positive and creative enough to think of things to do and to keep her brain active. She enjoys walking, music and I think she would like doing something more artistic like painting or coloring if someone could sit with her and do it.
