We know that choosing child care for your infant or toddler, or a preschool program, is one of the most important decisions families will make. Both of our teachers have BA degrees. We have been in the field of early care and education for 20 years andare passionate about what we do.

Though influenced by many of the popular curriculum followed by early childhood education programs, including the Creative Curriculum, Montessori, Waldorf, and the Reggio Emilia Approach, at Laffodils, we do not follow a specific curriculum. Rather, we incorporate aspects of all of these, combined with research and evidence based practices to develop an environment, lesson plans and experiences that support children through their development, regardless of their age, abilities or background.

In addition to the social emotional, physical, sensory motor, and cognitive development of the children in our programs, the Laffodils curriculum also supports Environmental Education, Global Citizenship and, perhaps most importantly, critical thinking skills.

Our lesson and activity plans, routines, experiences and environment are aligned with both the California Early Learning Foundations, and the Desired Results Developmental Profile (DRDP) child assessments. This helps us to ensure that the children in our programs are healthy, happy, and enter kindergarten with the foundation they need to be successful.

Perhaps one of the first things you will notice upon entering our classrooms is that there are very few traditional toys. Many of the toys available today only allow for closed-ended play, meaning that the play is directed by the toy, not the child. Close ended play limits the child's creativity, inventiveness, problem solving skills, and imagination. Open-ended toys, on the other hand, provide unrestricted opportunities for child-directed play, manipulating and transforming, creating, engineering, designing, and problem solving. Open-ended toys are limited only by the imagination. At Laffodils we believe that children benefit from 'loose parts' and 'heuristic play.' Except for a few materials that are incorporated only after carefully weighing the intent and benefits of including the item, to the extent possible, we use only natural materials in our program.

We invite you to check out our website to learn more about our early education philosophy, curriculum, and our facility. www.laffodilspreschool.com… Read more
