Many people like the IDEA of a nature preschool in theory, but can oftentimes have difficulty embracing its philosophies in practice, especially those pertaining to risky-play and child-centered autonomy. If you're expecting excessive coddling, spoon-feeding, and hand-holding for your child, then please do us all (and yourself) a favor and find a different school. This is a singularly extraordinary school, and the only one of its kind in this area. This school is a beacon of light in a dark world gripped with fear and paralyzed by cowardice.

If you want to send your kid to a bubble where they learn nothing and come home spotless this is not the place for you. BUT if you want your children to get a jumpstart on learning about the world they will eventually live in: this is the place. My daughter comes home and asks if she can be the teacher and show us yoga, spanish, art, and tell me about all the animals she cared for. She come home a little dirty half of the time, and in the best way! She plays outside every day, no matter the weather and tells me about what she learned in nature. There are many schools to send your kids to for an all indoor, padded, non-cultural facility that would never have a need for a bandaid, this is not that one, and our family is so glad.

This is our second year attending this preschool and we could not be happier with the quality of the program, teachers, the director, wonderful students, and the amazing community atmosphere. I have watched my child build an extensive vocabulary, problem solving skills, social/emotional skills, and great relationships with her teachers and classmates. She is thriving on their routines and daily structured learning opportunities. As an educator I was looking for a challenging and accredited program that was play-based and developmentally appropriate. The fact that this school includes Spanish, yoga, art, and a class with a naturalist as curricular activities separates it from any other program in the area. The director of this program is committed to a quality preschool education at an affordable rate. I am so glad that we moved to Harford county and are able to be a part of this experience!
Amazing preschool. I am the parent of a former and current student. My now 5 year old excelled at FHNP and was beyond prepared for kindergarten. We could not be happier. My 3 year old loves Spanish, yoga, wild in the woods, all of the animals in the school, etc. We love how the school teaches the children to give back to their community whether it be toys drives, donations for NICU babies, St Jude fundraisers, Hopkins Fundraisers, etc. You will not be disappointed if you choose this school.

As a parent of both a current and a former FHNP child, there's nowhere else I'd rather send my child. FHNP's curriculum is research-based and prepared my son very well for elementary school. The focus on outdoor play and free play is the kind of age-appropriate approach I was looking for for my children. Most importantly though, I know that my child loves and is loved by her teachers and has formed strong relationships with her friends at school.

The philosophy and approach at FHNP is markedly different from most preschool centers, and it's not for everyone - and that's fine. As a parent who has had kids there for 3.5 years I can say without a doubt that my children's physical, social, emotional, and academic well-being has benefitted from the creative, active, and nurturing environment at FHNP.
My daughter started in the 3s class in September. I have seen many positive changes in her already! We love it there and have nothing but great things to say about the school and its staff.

We started last summer and we absolutely LOVE this program. The children get to experience the "wild in the woods" program which takes them out in nature and teaches them about life and our space in it. They also take part in yoga, Spanish, and art! This school has 170+ children, yet it feels much smaller. During a literacy workshop, the reading teacher was able to give me direct feedback regarding MY child off the top of her head (this was a parents workshop!). At a recent potluck, the art teacher was able to describe why she liked my child's project and why she enjoys him in the room. Although to these teachers, my child is one of 170- he is as important as if he was one of ten! And the classroom teachers are PHENOMENAL!! My son has been thriving and that is all thanks to his amazing teachers who invest in him every day- who remember things important to him and me. My child is so happy to be in this preschool- and this is all thanks to the amazing program and staff picked by Ms. Lavonne.
This is a gem in Harford County!
P.S. - Ms. Lavonne open a Kindergarten!! We don't wanna leave next year!!!
My twins love it here! The arts, Spanish, yoga, and amazing nature education is helping them grow and learn in an amazing and nurturing environment!

We love Forest Hill Nature Preschool! I have a background in early childhood education and experience working with preschool age children. I was very particular about what I wanted while looking for a preschool for my 3 year old daughter. I did not want to send her to one of those big box daycare centers. I wanted a program that was research based, progressive, and run by people who truly care about what's best for about the children. This program is absolutely amazing! No other preschool in the area compares. Ms. Lavonne and her staff of teachers have created a safe, warm, inclusive, and nurturing environment for our young children to have their first life experiences out of the home. On top of the normal preschool curriculum the school also offers Yoga, Spanish, Art lessons, Wild in the Woods (science and nature), as well as multiple field trips throughout the year. My daughter has been thriving st FHNP. She only goes 2 mornings a week, but after 3 short months we are already planning on participating in the summer program and will be enrolling full time next year. Affordable tuition rates are just the icing on the cake. This is the best preschool program and I am so grateful my daughter has the opportunity to be a part of something so special.

My son has attended FHNP for the past 3 years. We couldn't ask for a more enriching program and experience. The teachers and director are all passionate about the work that they do. They are always attentive and have the best interest of the children at heart. As a parent I really appreciate the opportunity to observe my child at anytime. This has not been just a preschool for us but a second family. If you want to see your child thrive in a progressive program consider this school.
We couldn't ask for a better place to send our children to preschool! The director, Lavonne Taylor, and her entire staff treat each child as if they were their own. The growth and development I have seen in my daughter over the past 2 years is astounding. Through extensive outdoor play, nature exploration, art, yoga, reading, Spanish, caring for the many pets at the school and the innovative research based approach's to handing discipline make for a conducive learning environment.

My son is in a safe and enriching environment at this wonderful school, we love it!

The director and staff at FHNP are amazing and have worked wonders with my son in the few months that he has been there. He is the type of child that flourishes in settings that promote independence and free thinking. The director truly cares about the children and tries to accommodate all of their different learning and playing styles. Her philosophies Mayat ties be seen as outside the box but this is how some children learn and grow the best. Its made clear to all parents when before their child is enrilled. The program and director are very transparent. The most recent policies that another reviewer mentioned where never enacted, the director was willing to have an open forum with parentsto discuss and no child was forced to participate in any unsafe behavior. I think the tremendous parent support the school and director received following this misfortunate incident of over zealous few parents and the swift reinstatement of the facility's license only goes to show it's quality and the majority of families that love it!
We love this school! Miss Lavonne and her staff are phenomenal! My nephew is always excited to go to school and has learned so much this past year. Thank you Forest Hill Nature Preschool!
Miss Lavonne genuinely cares for the children at the school. She encourages children to be independent and promotes their curiosity. The school helps children understand their feelings and how to channel them appropriately. This school incorporates Spanish, yoga, prayer, reading groups, art studio, and nature exploration in addition to the standard preschool ciriculum.
Tried to implement a gun and war play policy and wrestling matches within the classroom. Owner was already conducting wrestling matches and lied when I asked her why my son was crying all the time.
