Companion/Care That's Fun, Engaging And Compassionate With Excellence!
My grandfather had Alzheimer's and was taken advantage of before my family placed him in a nursing home. I believe with a little bit of support, many people could remain in their homes and lead productive happy lives. I believe I can make a daily difference in families that have a gap in care.
I've worked with several elderly ladies over the past year as a companion/caregiver. We've had more fun than I thought was possible! We laugh, joke, tease, have serious conversations, eat and drink together as well as play games and do puzzles. I love being one on one with people and listening to whatever they want to talk about. (Even if it's the same thing every 5 - 10 minutes.) My goal in caring for the elderly is to maintain their dignity with respect, care and laughter. When I play games with them, my goal is for them to feel as if they excelled in something at a time when they might not be excelling in many things. If that means changing the rules to suit their abilities, I do! Laughter is also very important to me along with eye contact to make sure they're connecting with me.
I care for others like I would want to be cared for if I was in their place. I take care of their home and things as if they were mine.
