About who needs care: COPD on home O2, blind right eye and limited vision in left eye due to glaucoma, requires assistance mainly due tovision loss and shortness of breath. Generally, uses rolling walker for shopping or appointments due to past pelvic and sacral fracture-month enventy injections for osteoporosis. Uses walker or cane as necessary in the home. Enjoys her plants and flowers on porch. She enjoys decorating her home and porch. Her day generally starts after 11am once she has managed her own medications and breathing treatments in the early am. She eats breakfast around 10-11 and lunch/dinner around 4-5pm. Enjoys ice cream (especially from soft serve from Boulineaus) fried chicken and eating out (steak). She enjoys shopping at Goodwill when her breathing and eyesight allows. Daughter lives next door and assists with medications dr appointments and finances.
About the care needs: Someone who understands and loves working with the elderly. A strong confident personality with the ability to clearly communicate and encourage client to make best choices regarding care. Empathy and compassion needed. Willingness and ability to repeat oneself often (due hearing loss and vision loss) without becoming frustrated is very necessary.
Assist with housekeeping such as washing clothes, making bed, wiping cabinets from spills, reading expirations dates on food to include in refrigerator and on occasion OTC medication expiration dates. Communicate with daughter any needs or concerns.
Due to low vision, client doesn't cook as often as she used to but may request assistance with cooking small meals like chicken wings, rice, gravy, eggs etc.
Client has always taken great care in styling her outfits, shoes and accessories, failing eyesight has greatly inhibited her ability to match her outfits and see staining. Assistance with planning for the week ahead.
Potentially assist with dialing phone numbers, writing cards and/or online ordering of groceries/gifts. Client has Walmart home delivery. Client uses marker or tape to assist her with reading labels. Assistance with attempting to locate frequently misplaced things or frequently used items.
Client is intelligent and has been very independent and social her entire life. Coping with declining health and increased isolation is challenging. Her inability to hear or see at times may cause her to become defensive until she clearly understands what was communicated. Communicate with daughter any concerns or needs.
