Mama Mac Home Daycare

1 Orangeburg Rd, Orangeburg, NY

Costimate: $223/wk

I am a mom of 3 watching a few children out of our home in Orangeburg. I have openings for summer and fall 2018 ages 6 weeks to 5 years. I am also available for before school care for Franklin Ave elementary, the bus can be taken from my house with my own 2 girls. I have been watching children for the past 3 years and can provide excellent references.

I love kids and am currently going back to school for my Master's in special education. Every morning, we do circle time. We learn the days of the week, the months of the year, and talk about the weather. Then we usually read a book and do an art project. After circle time, we go outside, weather permitting. I am big on kids having fresh air and outdoor play. As long as it's not raining or heavy snow, I bundle them up and get them out at least for a little while. If we can't get outside, I try to at least have them get some exercise by doing things like dance parties or kids yoga. I love reading to them, doing arts and crafts projects, playing games and singing songs. I am a big believer in play-based learning so I try to give the kids free time to use their imaginations and learn how to interact with each other socially but I also do structured activities like art projects and circle time.

If you are interested, send me a message. We can meet, talk more and see if this is the right fit!

Discovery Village

580 White Plains Road, Tarrytown, NY

Starting at $1440/mo

At Discovery Village classic and contemporary research and experience on early childhood learning and care come alive, translated into our playful approach. We are a high quality daycare and preschool, serving children from 6 weeks to five years old.

Discovery Village is unique.

With guidance from their teachers, children at Discovery Village learn by doing - transforming their classrooms into places in a village. Possibilities are endless! Classrooms can be designed as homes, restaurants, science labs, zoos, rocket ships, and more; anything our children are interested in. Teachers take the lead with the infants, designing the classrooms as nurturing, caring places such as homes or gardens. As children's interests develop they are able to make more and more choices about the design of their own places, stemming from their own curiosity and creativity.

Learning in all subject areas at Discovery Village is carefully integrated into the experience of designing and living in our village places. This includes age-appropriate learning in the areas of speaking and listening, reading and writing, math and science, social studies and cultural studies, the arts and physical education, and social-emotional as well as character skill building.

Our playful approach is grounded in experiential and project-based learning theory and research. It is a unique adaptation of "Reggio-inspired" learning, an educational philosophy emphasizing experiential learning, emerging from student interest, in a relationship-driven environment. In addition to our integrated learning, we place strong emphasis on social emotional learning.

We are open Monday-Friday from 7 AM to 6 PM, and serve children from 6 weeks to 5 years. Nutritious meals and snacks, cooked on-site, are included in the cost of tuition.

Discovery Village is licensed by the New York State Office of Children and Family Services.

Nyack's Little Schoolhouse

9 Lawrence Street, Nyack, NY

Costimate: $246/wk

We want to inspire the children under our care to develop a love of learning and the social skills that will last a lifetime. Being open to change and having the ability to rapidly adapt to new situations is critical for today's children. Our mission is to nurture each child's development in a sensitive and age appropriate manner so that they acquire the tools and self confidence to succeed
in life.

We base our philosophy on simple principles. Children have a powerful innate desire and ability to learn about and interact with their world. We believe that at a young age, learning through free and structured play is the ideal way of promoting development of physical, mental and social skills. To this end we syncretize some of the better educational principles from an eclectic mix of teaching methods from such schools as Regio Emilia, Waldorf, Montessori and High Scope and then fashion our own unique approach to early childhood education. We never stop learning and we continuously explore new and creative ways of teaching.

We currently use the Creative Curriculum for Preschool as a general guide for lesson planning and child assessment methodology. Our project and theme-based approach to teaching and learning addresses the four major areas of development including social/emotional, physical, cognitive and language.

We have small and intimate groups of students of up to 12 at Christa Care and 15 at Nyack's Little Schoolhouse with a teacher to pupil ratio never exceeding 1 to 6. In addition several specialized instructors supplement the program with yoga, music, art and foreign language lessons. In 2008, we achieved NAEYC re-accreditation by meeting their new high standards in all areas of our program.

We also offer a daily Universal Pre-Kindergarden program in collaboration with the Nyack Public Schools. This two and a half hour program is taught by a teacher who is certified in Early Childhood Education.
Some of the learning/play activities and resources include:

* Circle time with stories, poems and songs
