Hazel River Kids Care & Preschool is a religiously exempt day care facility available for ages 21/2-11. We offer both Summer Day Camp, Before & After School Care, and Preschool & Pre-Kindergarten Sessions throughout the year. Our primary goal at Hazel River Kids Care is for children to feel safe and secure while they are able to develop through fun and creativity. Prior to being independent a child must know that he or she can depend on adults and a predictable environment. Children are treated with respect and kindness. We recognize that children develop at different rates and have different interests. Small group size and appropriate teacher-child ratios allow for meeting the individual needs of each child. Adults provide protection, security, stimulation, support, limits and affection. Children are given the opportunity to explore materials and participate in a variety of experiences. Learning and playing are not limited to the classrooms. Learning through play is viewed as an essential part of the curriculum and activities are carefully planned and implemented in an open-classroom setting. Children are free to choose from age-appropriate activities including art, music, language development, pre-math skills, science and nature, and dramatic play. Children develop self-esteem, independence and problem-solving skills as they make choices and assist in planning the environment and the activities. Our facilities include warm and inviting spaces with quality learning materials, indoor gymnasium complete with safe equipment, spacious cafe area for meals and multi-purpose opportunities, carpeted areas for quiet time and discovery, kid friendly furnishings for instructional time and outdoor fun area which includes Little Tikes for imaginative play. Daily activities include arts and crafts, music and dance, active story time, creative and center skills, quiet and reflective time, circle groups, sensory and motor skill play and much more!

Child care
Children ages 2 to 12 years old and potty trained are able to enroll for this program. When classes are full, a waiting list is started. Vacancies are filled as they become available in order of the waiting list. Preschool is an exciting new adventure in your child s life. Our teachers are dedicated to helping our preschoolers explore and develop their sense of self. Our daily schedule provides flexibility and consistency, as well as a good mix of physical play, social and emotional development and communication. All our early academic lessons are geared towards furthering their development. For the 2017 2018 school year, we will be introducing a new curriculum to the center called HighScope, an active participatory learning curriculum that supports critical thinking and problem solving, along with social development. Children s interests and choices are the heart of HighScope and children will learn to plan their activities, carry them out, and talk with others about what they have done and what they have learned with the curriculum s Plan, Do, Review process. Our goals for CDC children are to learn through active play with people, ideas, and materials. We want our children to become independent, confident, and responsible. These goals will be met by following the 58 Key Developmental Indicators (KDIs). KDIs define the important learning areas for young children, which are; social and emotional development, physical development and health, language, literacy, and communication, mathematics, creative arts, science and technology, social studies, and approaches to learning. HighScope teachers will keep these indicators in mind while planning lessons and setting up their environment. We are excited to prepare our CDC children for school and life. We encourage you to read more about the HighScope curriculum at https://highscope.org/preschool. Our teachers track your child s progress through our child assessment portfolio system and daily communication tools. Teachers use this information to share your child s growth during Parent/Teacher Conferences. Children grades Kindergarten through 5th may be enrolled. Before & After school care is available for children from all six, Culpeper County Elementary Schools. Farmington and AG Richardson children will be transported by a county bus;whereas, Emerald Hill, Sycamore Park, Yowell, and Pearl Sample will be transported by the CDC bus.
