About who needs care: Seeking personal care aid for my 40-year-old son. Matt is an amazing young man with 4 college degrees. He had the misfortune to be born with a lipoma (fatty tumor) in his spinal cord/brain stem causing irreversible nerve damage. He has had numerous surgeries over the years and is currently wheelchair bound (quad) and requires being moved with an electric hoyer lift. *Matt is not a large man, at all. He is probably 5'1" and 135-ish pounds. He is 100% dependent on someone assisting him in his daily living needs to include hygiene, supra-pubic catheter flush (easy) , meal prep and assistance with eating. Matt spends a great deal of his time in a special hospital bed that moves him around due to past pressure wounds. He sits at his computer a few hours a day to socialize, research, work. He is an inspirational, compassionate, deeply thoughtful and appreciative human being.... I call him a blessing in my life.
About the care needs: Need someone very reliable and consistent, a self-starter (we would train you and Matt is very capable of explaining things should you have questions), be open to learning new hands-on medical skills. You do not have to have a medical background, but having some knowledge or experience would be an asset. Must be compassionate, very good communicator, sense of humor recognize the need to give someone their space when requested, flexibility, mature (intellectually), clean drivers license, positive and healthy outlook, no drug usage or substance abusers, non-smoker, per Starbridge/vax required as Matt is considered high risk.
Services needed include: transportation, meal preparation, errands / shopping, light housekeeping, companionship, feeding, bathing / dressing, and mobility assistance.
