Little Helping Hands Daycare

44 Shady Brook Lane Colchester, CT

< 1 mi

I am a small in home daycare, licensed by the state of Connecticut. I have medication certified and CPR First aide certified. My belief system is that children are capable of amazing things when provided with an environment that nurtures their desire to learn and be independent. I love watching children explore nature while we spend quite a bit of time outdoors (dependent on weather) and inside exploration working on colors, numbers, matching, coloring, scissor skills. I'm all for messy play with play doh, paint and anything that inspires little kids.

Did Speech Therapy work one on one for two years with boys who had no speech or real efforts to communicate. Planned and implemented daily speech work beginning with the vocal sounds the child make on a regular basis. I came up with the idea of utilizing mirrors to help the child form words with their mouth. Starting with the vocal sounds they could make, I used flash cards displaying pictures of objects that began with the vocal sound to reinforce the use of that sound as part of a word. This was very rewarding for the child. Reinforced the vocal theme with music, toys, puzzles and all tools we used until the next sound or letter was introduced. Taught location themes: above, below, behind, in, on, next to with the use of favorite toys. Taught basic numbers and letters math and writing skills. Responsibilities included potty training, teaching to feed themselves, and encouraging trying and eating new foods.
