My experiences as a caregiver were with my mom and husband who both had cancer. I took them to doctor's appointments, gave their timely medications and gave insulin shots to my husband as he was a diabetic. I also took them for walks for their daily exercises, prepared food for them, helped them with their personal oral hygiene and bathed them. After six years of doing this, it made me realize that care-giving is not only care-giving, but the how and why we take part in this kind of endeavor is inside of us. After seeing my mom and husband suffer from "cancer" and passed away, I promised myself that I would continue care-giving wherever I may be in memory of them. When I got my green card, I had the opportunity to work with a man who had dementia. I worked with him for five months, as I had to leave for the Philippines, as my daughter was scheduled for a major operation when I came back. I got to work with another man who was suffering from congested heart failure, he passed away last Wednesday.
