Experienced Math And Science Tutor
I was born and raised in Dallas, Texas and graduated from The Hockaday School. I have recently finished a degree in neuroscience at UT Dallas and plan to apply to medical school shortly thereafter and specialize in pediatric and adolescent psychiatry. Because I attended Hockaday from preschool to 12th grade, I am very familiar with the pressures and demands of preparing for and getting into college.
I feel comfortable in assisting students in several subjects. These subjects include: grade school math, science, and language arts, middle school math, science, and English, high school Algebra 1, Geometry, and Algebra 2, high school biology and chemistry, college algebra, college level general chemistry, biology, statistics for the behavioral sciences, and any neuroscience or neuroscience related course. I am available for assistance in writing essays, papers, college entrance essays, and revising or improving writing. I am also prepared to assist with test prep for STAAR, ISEE, PSAT, SAT, AP exams, and the ASVAB.
My experience with tutoring ranges from grade school to college. My experience with high school comes not only from my Wyzant students, but from me participating as a tutor in the AVID program. The AVID program is a college preparatory program made for students who have the potential to go to college, but perhaps need extra support to get there. I have received training from The Shelton School specifically for tutoring and working with students with ADD/ADHD and learning differences. Not only that, but I have my own personal experience with ADHD and dyslexia to draw from. I believe this enables me to be more patient and to find more ways to approach a subject with a student as well as easing some of the anxiety that may be adding to their difficulties with the subject. I have experience with tutoring and teaching being a TA for Neuropharmacology (a senior level neuroscience course at UT Dallas).
Overall, I strive to not only help my students understand the material, but to conquer the anxiety and the stress the material may be causing them. I am here to be a support and their teacher, not to judge or cause further stress. I will work with you and explain the material in different ways until we find the way that works for you.
