This tour will cover much of the island, its history, and historic sites. I will play a 45-minute documentary giving you an good introduction as we drive to Galveston on our drip-down movie screens. This is a mostly driving tour that also incorporates about 1 hour to walk and shop along the historic Strand Street. We will have other stops for photo taking. Galveston was the largest city in Texas in 1870 and 1880 and was the wealthiest city as well until the 1900 Great Storm. The Great Storm was a monster hurricane that killed at least 6,000 people on September 8th. More people died in this Galveston hurricane than ALL other hurricanes that have hit the mainland US in history. On the return trip, we can show you the documentary Isaac's Storm from the History Channel. This will be fun-filled, entertaining and educational tour of a once great city that is still a fun place to vacation.

I will provide you with an introduction to Houston, identify places along your trip to the travelers' abode, and answer questions that they may have. If they like, I can provide travelers with a map of Houston.

Will bring 2 or 3 videos to watch during the tour. I will have maps and population tables of the past 150 years. I will bring 4 books to peruse about African-American Texans, African-American Houstonians, The Green Book, and lastly a booklet about Memorial Park, where the biggest race riot in Texas took place in 1917. I will also play hit songs by local African-Americans from the 1960s and 1970s. You will have lots of stimuli. This tour covers portions of the 3rd and 4th Wards and southeast Houston beyond the Wards. It includes a variety of disparate Black communities that are spread across Houston. We will drive over 25 miles within the city.

The ideal time of the year for comfort and flowers for such a tour is in the last half of February, March, April, and October.
