I've always been told that the worst things you can do with a skill are not mastering it, and not passing it on. I'm a firm believer that every person on this world is both a Student AND a Mentor, not just one or the other. I'm constantly still trying to master my craft and learning new things about playing percussion and music everyday. But i also want to continue to pass on the vast knowledge that I've learned over almost 14 years of playing, performance, and studies. A Little Bit About Me: I started playing Percussion when I was 10 years old and haven't stopped since. I first started just playing Snare Drum but then quickly moved on and started learning other instruments such as drumset, Marimba, Xylophone, and other mallet and auxiliary instruments. I performed in multiple New York State solo and full band competitions from the ages of 11-17. When in High School, I played in the Orchestra, Wind Ensemble, Jazz Band, as well as a College Public Symphonic Orchestra in the town that I grew up in. When I was 18 years old, I joined the United States Marine Corps and served for 4 years as a Marine Musician. I graduated from the Naval School of Music after 6 months of technical music study and performance training and was stationed at Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island, South Carolina. While I was there, I performed over 500 Recruit Graduation, Retirement, and Change of Command Ceremonies as well as having traveled to over 12 different states in the U.S. to perform for veterans and and the general public. I've had the pleasure of playing gigs such as Mardi Gras parades, NFL and NCAA football games, International Military Music Festivals and Tattoos, among many others. I would love to be able to now help YOU learn how to play some of these instruments that I love and teach you about music! Formal Education: Niskayuna Central School District Grade 5-12 2012 Naval School of Music Graduate-Marine Corps Detachment Continued Formal Music Education while serving on Active Duty with the Parris Island Marine Band Private Education: Matthew Cremisio 2003-2009 Dan Gleason 2009-2011 Performing Experience: I started playing Percussion when I was 10 years old and haven't stopped since. Experience Teaching: While at the Parris Island Marine Band, I served as the Percussion Section Leader from 2014 to 2015. This job included tasks such as teaching lessons before and after work, organizing group sectional time, preparing and setting up for rehearsals and gigs and ensuring the overall readiness of all section members for every performance. I beleive that every person, whether you think you are a teacher or not, is a teachaer. And every person is a student in the same. If you keep and open mind you will always be able to learn something which in turn can lead to you teaching someone else!
