Hello ! My name is Ivana, and I opened my Licensed Family Child Care program in August, 1981. I offer Full-time, Part-time and summer care. I believe that it is important to provide a safe, nurturing and educational environment for your child, one where social, emotional and intellectual growth are promoted and encouraged. I care for children as if they were my own, and I have structured my program to be an extension of your home environment. The atmosphere is one of a large family, and respect for oneself and others are encouraged through love, praise and positive reinforcement. My current license capacity is 10, as posted on my license. I work with a full time and part time licensed assistants. All family Child Care Educators must carry out a routine that is flexible and responds to the needs and interest of children in care. The routine must include activities that foster the physical needs of the children in care, with at least 60 minutes of physical activity everyday. Child-initiated and educator-initiated activities and daily outdoor play, weather permitting, is always something we strive for. We have developed a curriculum that engages children with developmentally appropriate activities and specific learning experiences. Our curriculum includes learning self-help skills that foster independence, opportunities to gain problem solving and decision-making competencies, and leadership skills and opportunities to learn about proper nutrition and personal safety. I am also responsible for providing an environment that promotes cultural, social and individual diversity. Progress reports will be completed periodically for all children in care. I will also provide daily written reports for children 12 months old and under. We provide healthy well-balanced breakfasts, lunches and 2 hearty snacks daily. I am full-blooded Italian, and truly love sharing healthy meals and snacks with my children! Daily curriculum varies depending on group ages and needs, but a variety of activities are always provided throughout the day: coloring, painting, play dough, puzzles, free play, singing, dancing, reading books, listening to music, talking about weather, water play, sand play, bubbles, slides, nature walks, blocks, toy trucks and cars, trains, animals, dolls, dress up clothes, and circle time--just to name a few! Life with children is always active and exciting! Please contact me, if you'd like to know more!

I want to see growth and development in the kids. That is the key aspect of my program for me. I believe that communication, consistency, and structure are key elements to growth and development. I also value the communication and relationship with parents, because that's where everything starts. I know that if the children see a good bond between the parents and me, it is easier for the children to bond with me too. I even encourage parents, when they can, to stay with the kids in my home for an hour or so the first couple of days in the program so that the children ease into it better. I strive for both parents and children to feel comfortable to ensure the highest level of care, growth, and development. I am always there for the parents, whether they need my help as an emergency on a weekend or want to drop by the program anytime during the day. They might catch us doing some of our favorite activities, like circle time where they all can participate, floor activities, or playing music. I treat each child as my own but adhere to what parents say is best. I am very attentive to allergies and am happy to give the children preferred snacks provided by the parents. I love having both play and education work together to create the best environment possible for the kiddos. I strive for them to be more independent and completely prepared for school when they leave my care. To this end, we do lots of projects, from arts and crafts developing all sorts of necessary physical and mental skills, to sciences and other academic areas of learning. Every day we have circle time where we talk about the seasons, the weather, the days of the week and months of the year, we count forward and backward, read some books, we do it all! Plus, we change themes every 2 weeks so that the kids can be immersed in different topics and learn fully. A fun tip for parents about my program is that we have a WhatsApp group chat for the program where every day I post pictures and activities in there. Parents know what their child is up to every day! Then, if anyone needs anything, parents are free to call or text me anytime. What is NeighborSchools? During a typical day at Maria's Family Daycare, when the children arrive, I greet them and show them how to remove their jackets and wash their hands. I tell them to play for a few minutes while Ms. Maria gets breakfast ready, and when they are finished, we wash hands, and they go back to playing while I clean up. Then we do diaper changes and wash hands to get ready for circle time. We sing the ABCs and start the day by asking who knows what day it is. I have songs for each day of the week. We break for a few minutes and get the materials ready for the next activity of the day. After that, we clean up and do some body exercises - sometimes we do free play and other times we make a circle and start to dance. I observe the children during this time and take notes. I use a curriculum program called Curriculo de Primera Infancia. Days include science, math, music, and reading time, all of which are tailored to our theme of the day. For example, children use plastic scissors to try to cut paper and show what is around them, and in our community. I have lots of photos and clothes for dress up in the Dramatic Play area - along with fruits and vegetables. I also teach them about healthy habits and the parts of the body. I share different cultures through food, language and photos. At mealtime, I show them how to sit well and use good manners to chew with their mouths closed and use a napkin. I show them it is important to eat healthily. I also show them how to discard leftovers in the trash and that we don't touch anything else until hands are washed and we have brushed our teeth. My child care philosophy is inspired by the kids I've cared for throughout my life and what's worked for them. For example, my son is super active, always running around and playing. So I've created a variety of activities throughout the day for all kids and interests-from physical games when we have a lot of energy, to reading and arts and crafts when the children want to relax or have quiet time. Above all, I am always open to feedback from parents. I love working with parents to create the experience that works best for their children and families. What is NeighborSchools? I was excited to start my own family child care program in 2018 to be able to bring something new to the care options for parents. I am proud that my program is unique in that we embrace bringing creative arts to the young children, such as art, music, and theater. Our program believes Integrated learning is much more than just exposure to different forms of art while at school. Arts is an approach to teaching and learning in which students construct and demonstrate understanding through an art form. We use various forms of art (drama, music, storytelling, puppets, visual arts, and creative movement) as primary pathways to learning. We work with each child to foster their developmental skills in each area by implementing a creative curriculum to do lesson plans, etc. The children go on field trips to the library, children's museum, zoo, Aquarium, Puppet museum, and indoor play area seasonally. While we follow a creative arts curriculum, we do change activities often throughout the day and have the typical circle time, we build with blocks, the kids learn science, and more. In terms of schedule, we are structured as a preschool might operate, but the kids get so much more with creative arts and a home setting in the mix. What is NeighborSchools? NeighborSchools helps experienced caregivers launch and operate licensed home daycares in Massachusetts. Since I opened Linda's Family Child Care in 2002, my mission has been to provide excellent, licensed child care for infants, toddlers, and preschoolers in a family child care home. I believe parents shouldn't struggle when deciding between a family child care and a center or preschool. Their children should receive the best of both worlds. So, I created a child care program that offers the closeness, attentiveness, and homeyness of a warm and nurturing home environment as well as the stimulation, learning experiences, and variety of a center or preschool. What is NeighborSchools? NeighborSchools helps experienced caregivers launch and operate licensed home daycares in Massachusetts.
