At Kate's Kiddos Daycare we align our curriculum to the Early Childhood Standards of Quality provided by the Michigan Department of Education. Young learners are natural, enthusiastic learners. Their impulse to ask questions, to investigate, and to explore, examine, and experiment, comes from a burning curiosity about the world and a desire to understand things. We work everyday to install a love for learning through discovery, discourse, and, most importantly, play! We do this through Discovery Centers, Music and Movement, and Sensory Play. I graduated with my BA in Elementary Education with a major in Literature Arts with coursework in Early Childhood Education. I taught grades k-6 in S. Korea, substitute taught grades k-12 in MI, and taught first grade gifted students in AZ. I LOVE children and teaching, however, after becoming a first time mommy I needed to walk away from my career in education to focus on my son. Now that my son is older, I want to return to my passion of educating and caring for children. I enjoy teaching my son through sensory play and discovery of the world around him. I know that I can provide this same care for another family in need! I'm so blessed to be a stay-at-home mom, but I'm still a teacher at heart and want to provide my expertise in child development and learning to a family, while providing child care!

Each day our friends will meet on our friendship carpet. We take turns using our calendar to discuss the date, day, and the weather outside. We then sing our songs to learn our friend's names and to wake all of our sleepy friends up and to get our smiles going. The next hour is followed with play time. I have an entire room full of different kinds of reading books, coloring books, crafts, blocks, dolls, games, puzzles, cards, dry erase boards, chalk boards, beauty parlors, desks, toys of all different kinds. Your children will be allowed to use their imagination and play with their friends with whatever they would like. Around 10am we come together at the table where we will have a snack. After snack is our workbook time. I give each child their own age appropriate workbook full of all different kinds of activities; tracing, letters, numbers, colors, coloring, math, science. We will complete various exercises in our notebook together as a team. If the weather permits, we can play outside on my playscape or go for a walk to a nearby park. Around noon we will come together again and have a nice lunch which will be followed by quiet hour. The children will lay down with their favorite blanket and stuffed animals and rest. If your child isn't in need of a nap, I just ask that they lay down quietly for an hour. After quiet hour, we then work on a special craft for mom and dad or sometimes we will bake cookies, brownies, cupcakes etc which often the children get to bring home with them. Around 3 we will have another snack which is then followed by free time where the child again gets to play with their friends with whatever they would like. Each day your child will bring home a report card describing their mood, if I noticed anything such as sniffles, cough etc, as well as their snacks and lunch listed and also how much they ate.
