My program is a small, mixed-age group, and we all become very attached to each other--it really is very much like a family. I am located in Boston, close to the Longwood Medical Area. I have a well-equipped home with three levels of interesting space and a small backyard. We also have a wagon-for-six for trips around the neighborhood, and a minivan filled with car seats (and with a triple stroller folded up in back) for field trips to the zoo, the science museum, and other cool places around Boston. The mixed-age grouping contributes to a cooperative rather than a competitive environment--it's the norm to have a different skill level, since children are different ages, and your friends will just naturally offer to help if you don't know how to do something. The curriculum is child-centered and play-based, by which I mean that I guide activities mostly by preparing the environment and selecting the playthings. Then I let the children engage in play and discovery. I'm here to model appropriate behavior, set limits, read books, add or subtract materials, keep everybody clean, fed, safe, and loved, and generally keep things moving smoothly. We have a wonderful time! I have three major goals for the children in my group: positive self-concept, social skills, and language skills. If you are confident and excited about your world and your ideas, know how to make and keep friends, and communicate well, you are well on your way to academic and personal success. I am licensed for six children, but prefer to have a group of four or five per day, depending on the ages of the children. I sometimes do have six children, when alumni come to visit or when I simply can't work out the schedule any other way. Children typically start the program at age one and continue until age four or five. I try to provide everything so that parents don't have to pack a huge bag each day. Food, diapers, and field trip expenses are all included in the daily rate--there are no extra charges. I serve a ovo-lacto vegetarian menu. There are lots of pets--turtle, geckos, fish--which provide a wonderful anchor for the science curriculum, since they all need different food and different environments. We also do things like hatching chicken eggs, planting seeds, making collections of pine cones and other natural objects. A dog and two cats live in the house, and petting and playing with them contribute a lot of comfort and interest.

At my program, we learn through play and developmentally-appropriate activities. I love helping children learn - whether through arts and crafts, building blocks, or outdoor activities - children are like sponges, and they are constantly learning if you give them the environment and space to do so. I love having both play and education work together to create the best environment possible for the kiddos. I strive for them to be more independent and completely prepared for school when they leave my care. To this end, we do lots of projects, from arts and crafts developing all sorts of necessary physical and mental skills, to sciences and other academic areas of learning. Every day we have circle time where we talk about the seasons, the weather, the days of the week and months of the year, we count forward and backward, read some books, we do it all! Plus, we change themes every 2 weeks so that the kids can be immersed in different topics and learn fully. A fun tip for parents about my program is that we have a WhatsApp group chat for the program where every day I post pictures and activities in there. Parents know what their child is up to every day! Then, if anyone needs anything, parents are free to call or text me anytime. What is NeighborSchools? My first job in USA was a teacher's assistance at a large family daycare. Then I returned to college for my Bachelor's degree majoring in Accounting and Finance. Also, I have an associate's degree in education. My daycare provides bilingual education: English and Mandarin. Currently, my program accepts children under 5 years old. Currently, I already accepted two infants, only one toddler slot is open.

I want to keep educating myself and incorporating the latest technology, lessons, and all of the new things that are coming out all the time about the development of children. I love helping the larger community within my home. I look forward to expanding my space over time and being able to teach many children over the years. We open at 7:30am and we begin the day with free play with a variety of toys. Then we clean up and wash hands and go potty before breakfast at 9am. We have a curriculum we follow to learn letters, numbers, colors, and shapes, before we go outside weather-permitting. We love to go out and be with mother nature whenever we can! After that, we come back in and wash up for snack time and prepare for circle time. We love circle time and reading stories. After that and some more free play, the children help with setting the table for lunch at noon, and help clean too. From 1 to 3pm we have nap time. For those children who don't rest, we have quiet play or we sit and chat quietly with each other. In the later afternoon we go outside once again weather-permitting and maybe go for a walk. Then we have puzzles, games, and singing until the kids have to clean up and get ready to go home for the night. It is a fun, packed day of learning and exploring for the children! There are many important aspects of Family Child Care to me. one is an engaging and development-oriented curriculum. This is enhanced by my learning of how to be a better educator. I am also incredibly attentive to healthy eating. I want to make sure the children are nurtured and that everyone is happy and smiling. I love that my program is family oriented. The children get the care and the love in a smaller group that they wouldn't necessarily be able to receive in a larger setting, yet the daycare center structure and philosophies are all still there. My program combines the structure and schedule of a typical preschool classroom with the comfort of a home environment. This helps children prepare for a transition into a kindergarten classroom. There is sensory play such as play dough or finger painting, time for pre-academics with letter and math games, read alouds, storytelling/story acting and other pre-writing activities. We spend a lot of time outdoors at two nearby parks to encourage free play and exploration and gross motor movement. We will have daily whole group meetings and activities as well as plenty of time for independent and group play. I encourage kids to step outside their comfort zone and try new things, even if it's hard. Maintaining routines and order is greatly beneficial and something I take seriously. Having clear and consistent boundaries and expectations makes everyone feel safe and respected. But while I firmly believe in structures and routines, there will be plenty of time for spontaneity and lots of fun! What is NeighborSchools? I was excited to start my own family child care program in 2018 to be able to bring something new to the care options for parents. I am proud that my program is unique in that we embrace bringing creative arts to the young children, such as art, music, and theater. Our program believes Integrated learning is much more than just exposure to different forms of art while at school. Arts is an approach to teaching and learning in which students construct and demonstrate understanding through an art form. We use various forms of art (drama, music, storytelling, puppets, visual arts, and creative movement) as primary pathways to learning. We work with each child to foster their developmental skills in each area by implementing a creative curriculum to do lesson plans, etc. The children go on field trips to the library, children's museum, zoo, Aquarium, Puppet museum, and indoor play area seasonally. While we follow a creative arts curriculum, we do change activities often throughout the day and have the typical circle time, we build with blocks, the kids learn science, and more. In terms of schedule, we are structured as a preschool might operate, but the kids get so much more with creative arts and a home setting in the mix. What is NeighborSchools? Red Apple is a bilingual family child care that provides a fun educational curriculum. Children will have a great day while they learn new things. The daily interaction with the children is what we find so satisfying. We love watching the reading process unfold and never tire of helping children unlock the mysteries of print. We also love all the ways that children come to make sense of their world-through dramatic play, art, music, investigations, exploration, thinking mathematically, playing around with language. We like creating opportunities for their learning and supporting and challenging them as they figure things out. Our daycare offers a range of educational services depending on the age of the child. For infants, we focus primarily on emotional development, relationship, and developmental tasks, and are acutely aware of the integrated nature of all these domains of development. We show them the appropriate ways to use the equipment. We make as much as more eye to eye interaction, verbal language, and appropriate equipment to help them to explore the world. We do skin-to-skin contact with infants to let them feel safe and secure. We guide them to practice sit, crawl, stand, walk, and develop their language skills. Toddlers and Preschoolers children are given an explanation of what they are doing that is inappropriate and redirected or told what is appropriate. We guide them to practice sharing, helping, and cooperating. We help them to improve social/emotional, cognitive, physical, and language skills. We plan the appropriate curriculum to improve their academic skills, such as literacy, problem-solving, and creative development. I had obtained an Associate degree in Early Childhood and Education. I am in a home Daycare license by the State of MA, CPR, and First Aid Certify, also I am a licensed Early Education Teacher and Lead Teacher. Our language is English and Mandarin. We provide fresh homemade breakfast, lunch, and snacks every day to all children. We hope the families could cooperate with us to support our children to be successful in meeting later school expectations.
