We are a licensed in-home childcare run by an certified teacher with a master's degree in early childhood and special education and nine years of teaching experience. We specialize in flexible, drop-in childcare catering to your schedule. Not everyone needs a full time day care setting and the expense that comes with it. Yet almost every parent does need child care sometimes, often even on short notice. We are here for you, whether it's once a week or only once ever. Our in home setting allows your child to enjoy the comfort and attention of a cozy kid friendly space much like a play date at a friend's house but with the added fun of planned learning activities. Miss Chrys has a strong background and extensive education in early childhood education, both with typically developing children and those with special needs, allowing us to offer a developmentally appropriate setting for children to learn and grow while you take care of other things.

Our Philosophy: We believe our children will save the world. Children have a limitless capacity for compassion, gratitude, and open-mindedness. The care we provide helps them keep these gifts close and carry them throughout their lives. Wow and Flutterville offers Waldorf-inspired care for children 6 weeks to 5 years. Embracing the philosophy, “home-away-from-home” by providing loving communities designed to support little ones in their important work of exploring, discovering, and learning through nature-based exploration in an environment filled with kindness, empathy, and a culture of inclusion. Daily Rhythm and following our children lead We believe children are best supported through a rhythm that follows their lead through every aspect of their day. This belief begins with our youngest friends in Magnolia and continues up through our friends in the Willow classroom. It starts by respecting our infant's agency. This might look like putting children into positions they can get themselves in and out of, rather than forcing tummy time. In Waldorf, we often talk about in-breath and out-breath. Children often have not developed skills of self-regulation, a rhythm allows them the time and space for quiet in-breath activities and gross motor out-breath activities. We see our teachers, like good DJs, utilizing a beautiful classroom environment as a third teacher, using mother nature and its gifts as a way to help children regulate and through a mix of art, story, music & free play, create a space where children feel safe & secure to explore the world around them.

We are a non-profit that runs a family cooperative playschool program for children 18 months to 3.5 years old. Our mission is to empower families with resources, such as parenting workshops and social opportunities, and to build community among our participating families. Our playschool focuses on social and emotional skill building, and introduces children to the preschool setting. This is a cooperative program and works best when one parent is not working or has a flexible work schedule. We are not a school or a daycare. This is a community venture and requires your time and engagement. Children attend 3 days. Parents work one shift a week, and drop off 2 shifts per week. Families also have 2 hours per week of committee work and attend monthly parent meetings. A parent coach works alongside parents every shift and provides a consistent face for the playschool. We are open 5 days a week from 9am-1pm. The program enrolls up to 20 families, with a 12 kid maximum attendance on any given day.

Why I'm here... I recently had a friend come to me and vent her struggle to find consistent reliable daycare for her children. Her sitter had recently quit on her with little notice, and she couldn't find anyone full time that was open for the hours she needed. I helped her when I could, but I was working a full time job myself. I realized that this wasn't the first time I had heard this problem. Anyone with kids knows the difficulty that comes with trying to find daycare, especially those who don't work a regular 9-5 job. That's when I decided, with all my years of childcare experience I could do something to help. I am here to provide a safe, caring, nurturing, and fun environment! I am also here to help out parents who have had a difficult time finding childcare that is flexible with hours. Don't get off work until 8-9pm? That's fine! I will be happy to provide a nutritious dinner, help get homework done, and so on. A little about me... I come from a large family, and am the oldest of 5 kids. Basically I grew up caring for little ones. Once I was old enough I started babysitting for relatives, neighbors and family friends. I graduated high school and joined the workforce. I spent a few years managing a Starbucks, and then ventured into the world of technology and became an Apple Product Professional. I've been putting myself through college as well. I am currently two science course away from an Associates of Art, and plan on continuing on for a bachelors. I want to eventually start painting murals for families and small business's. Now that I am in my late twenties I have continued to provide childcare for my friends and co-workers, and decided I wanted to make it a full time gig. I am conveniently located just at the edge of SE Portland. Right where SE meets Milwaukie, Clackamas, and Happy Valley. The one thing I do not provide is transportation. Drop off and pick up are required.

Kid's Academy is one of the oldest locally-owned child care facilities in the Cedar Mill Community. Founded in 1998, we have thrived on word of mouth and referral based business for over 20 years. Our approach is simple: Let children come as they are, be who they are and encourage them every step of the way. We tailor our activities to fit all able children and welcome diversity into the Kids Academy Family. Our preschool program runs every morning, giving us the opportunity to help each child accomplish a task they are proud of. We focus our preschool program on kindergarten preparation and making sure the children are building self esteem in the process. We are very open to working with all children and their unique needs. It's all about them succeeding in their own way! Our Infant and Toddler room is focused on development and movement. We prepare daily activities for each infant and toddler according to age and ability. We work on your schedule with naps if you have a preference. Bring us a schedule and we can accommodate it for you and your family. Lunch menus are posted weekly. We are always a peanut free facility. Kids Academy is a screen free center. Please leave your tablets and video games at home! My name is Abbie Simmons and I was born and raised in the Cedar Mill Community. I attended West TV, Cedar Park and outside of a brief stint in the Bay Area, I have always resided within a mile of my center. My roots are deep and true to Portland, with both of my parents growing up in the Portland area. I have four children. Two are grown up and have both graduated from The University of Oregon. The other two are still immersed in High School youth sports and Little League, leaving my free time spent with my children at the ball field. My passion has always been to help children live up to their full and unique potential. Please stop by and say "Hello!" for a tour and current rates!
