Certified PCA Seeking FT Or Extended PT Work
I have been working in the field of geriatric care for over 2 years in an Assisted Living Residence setting. I also do private in-home care. I am a certified PCA and a Mandated Reporter (VAMR) through the MDHHS. I have over 10 hours in CEUS (continuing education units) with an emphasis on Dementia care. I am also signed up for continuing Ed. in Hospice care. I have a clean background check with paperwork from the DHHS. I became interested in the field after having taken care of my father for several years and in the end, doing hospice care for him. It was after my father's death that I realized I really wanted to care for the elderly, that it was an avocation for me rather than a vocation. Since then I have worked with dementia patients, Alzheimer's patients, Parkinson's patients, stroke patients, those with psychological disorders and those who just need some extra care and companionship. I have experience with PT, OT, Hospice, nursing care, personal cares and socialization, i. e. crafts, games, puzzles, music, painting and bingo. I work with those who are losing their sight, helping them adapt, those with dementia who need cuing and re-direction and help with everyday activities. I enjoy involving my clients/residents in activities that keep them stimulated, from singing, dancing with walkers (if able), watching old movies and listening to songs from their era. I work with my residents/clients to keep them physically active whether it be a walk, non-stress bearing exercising, or just throwing a "Sqoosh" ball around. I am an excellent cook and enjoy preparing healthy meals with an emphasis on fresh, in-season fruits and vegetables. I bake a fine cookie and make a mean tapioca (an elderly favorite). I am passionate about my work and about bettering the lives of seniors. It is my firm belief that just because one is old one does not have to quit having a great and interesting life.
