San Marcos Parent Child Workshop Inc

400 Puente Drive, Santa Barbara, CA

Starting at $1050/mo

The San Marcos Parent-Child workshop is a licensed, cooperative preschool and parent education class. Children between the ages of 2-5 years are introduced to a quality preschool experience, using developmentally appropriate practices. The nurturing, loving environment makes an ideal first school experience for your child and brings out the best in you as a parent. We practice gentle separation for both parent and child and promote non-violent conflict resolution. We provide a natural classroom setting with a wholesome, organic snack.

SMPCW operates by parents under the supervision of a Director and Assistant Director educated in Early Childhood Education and Parent Education. Parents enrolled in the morning lab participate actively one morning a week in the preschool setting. Parents also attend a weekly Monday evening parent education class at the school, where a variety of parenting issues are discussed and speakers from the community share their expertise. (The lecture/lab instructor is provided by the Continuing Education division of Santa Barbara Community College.)

Philosophy:
SMPCW provides and recognizes partnership with families as an integral part of the community. To support each person's growth, we work toward individualizing our program for children and families. We acknowledge that each person brings different needs, skills, interests, backgrounds and life experiences.

We believe adults and children learn best through active participation with their environment and with others.

We embrace a hands-on approach to learning for all ages.

We emphasize the value of parent education for the positive development of the family. We recognize the family to be the most important influence in the child's life and work to support the growth of parenting skills and knowledge.
We support a holistic perspective of human growth and development.

Our curriculum is based on promoting children's social, emotional, physical, cognitive, and creative development.
We dedicate ourselves to promoting anti-bias attitudes and practices as we celebrate all cultures, ages, roles, and human diversities.

Mission Statement:
SMPCW is dedicated to sharing the adventure of early learning and parent education within a nurturing and diverse community of families.

Vision:
A school which supports our families, instills a sense of community, embodies the spirit of learning, while having fun and giving back to the community.
