My name is Kate and I am 27 years old. I graduated from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign with a bachelor's degree in Speech-Language Pathology. I recently graduated with my master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology from Nova Southeastern University. My husband and I moved to the area about a month ago since he just left the U. S. Army. We were previously stationed in Colorado Springs, CO for about two years. I am due with my first child at the end of May, and have decided that babysitting is something I would love to do at this time instead of finding a brand new job as a Speech-Language Pathologist. I plan to stay home with my child this summer after he or she is born. I have a love for children and am a fun-loving, energetic, kind, compassionate, responsible individual which are important traits to have when caring for children. I have had much experience in childcare and would love to continue my experience in working for your family. In graduate school, I have vast amounts of experience working with children during my clinical rotations! As a babysitter in the past, I worked for a family with two 9-year-old girls. While at the University of Illinois, I babysat and tutored a 10-year-old boy in areas such as reading, writing, and math. I also worked for New Horizon as a volunteer and had the job title of a special needs assistant. The population of children I worked with included, Autism, Cerebral Palsy, Down Syndrome, and behavioral disorders. The ages ranged from 4-24 years old. My job tasks included helping children with functional tasks, such as, writing their name on a piece of paper, zipping up their jacket, showing them how to color in the lines, and mostly just interacting with the kids and establishing a trusting relationship. Many of these children had no verbal communication, but I was able to come up with unique ways on getting them to say the alphabet or even just simply saying their name. Along with the experience I have stated above, I have had experience over the years watching toddlers, grade-school age children, and preteen children as well. I have had many different babysitting jobs throughout high school which gave me the chance to interact with a variety of different ages of children. There is not one age which I feel I am better suited for than another. I would absolutely love the opportunity to watch your children and believe that I am an extremely responsible, dependable, caring individual who would be a great caretaker for your family!
