My name is Sherri and I am a very compassionate and reliable Caregiver. I worked part-time for 5 years for two sisters that lived in my neighborhood. I handled refilling prescriptions, separating them into pill boxes and made sure they took them on time. I also managed their grocery lists and their shopping. I took them on outings, to appointments and gatherings with friends. I met with their social worker and POA regularly to report any issues and discuss overall needs. Eventually they were moved to an assisted living facility because the state felt it was no longer safe for them to live on their own. The older sister had dementia and the other was mentally challenged. My next position was working for an elderly couple in their late 90's. The lady was under Hospice care for heart disease and her husband was on oxygen 24/7 and had COPD. I worked the day shift 5 days a week and some weekends when needed. I assisted with getting out of bed and dressed (sometimes bathed), planned and prepared meals, did light housework (mostly laundry, making beds and vacuuming), reminded them to take their medication, made shopping lists, assisted with bathroom visits, bandaged wounds and kept them company. After 2 months, the woman passed away due to Congestive Heart Failure. Our team continued to care for her 98-year-old husband until he passed away 11 months later. I have no certifications yet but I have plenty of hands on experience. Being there almost everyday, I was able to learn a lot of good techniques from nurses and hospice aids. I am a very hard worker and quick learner. I am also very resourceful and get along great with others. I have a big heart and a big smile and I do what I can to help people. I would like to continue working in this field because it is very fulfilling and feels right for me. Prior to becoming a Caregiver, I was an Administrative Assistant for an Aluminum Brokerage where I worked for 9 years until being laid off. I also worked 3 years in a law firm and 15 years as a florist.
