About
The Block of Greater Houston provides two year round programs for individuals with special needs. Our Adult Day Program enables adults with special needs the opportunity to develop their socialization skills in order to thrive at home and in the community.
Our second program, Adventures With The Block, provides weekend, school holiday and summer/winter break recreational and social activities for special need individuals 13 and up. Adventures will include activities such as festivals, beach excursions, concerts, museums and city tours.
The Block of Greater Houston will give guidance/ skills to each individual with special needs. The Block will teach emotional awareness, socialization, coping, communication and perspective taking skills to all of them, affording our clients a more independent lifestyle.
Specific Adventures will be posted 1 month prior to the date. Our Adventures will last for from 6 to 8 hours, from drop off to pick up. Please note that activities might change depending on the weather. Communication (with parent/guardian) will be delivered through text/ emails.
An enrollment interview and annual registration fee of $125 per member is required before the Adventure begins. Each adventure is $95 per day. Please email The Block if your loved one requires one on one care. Parents and guardians please pack your loved one a nutritious snack and lunch. There will be Adventures where lunch and snacks will be provided. Those Adventures will be marked. If your loved one has dietary restrictions please pack them an appropriate lunch and snack. Members are encouraged to bring backpacks and water bottles to stay hydrated. Electronics are not encouraged. We recommend electronics be left at home so students make the most of the day's activities. Parents and guardians please label everything.
