About the business
Kreative Kidz camps are fun, high-energy programs that allow young people to fully engage their imaginations as they experience the thrill of creating live theatre. From learning the basic techniques of acting for the stage, to developing improvisation and physical comedy skills, to putting it all together in a public performance, it will be a summer your child will never forget.
Students participate in a wide variety of theatre activities--including improvisation, scene study, storytelling, creative writing, and group singing--all taught by caring teachers dedicated to meeting each child at his or her level.
Classes emphasize drama games and exercises designed to increase spontaneity, engage the imagination, promote selfconfidence, and encourage ensemble spirit.
At the end of each weeklong session, students share their work in a free performance which is open to the public.
Each session has a different focus, and you can sign up for just one session or as many as you want.
No prior drama experience is required.
What Students Will Be Learning:
* Creating active stage presence
* Examining character motivation
* Using stage direction and blocking
* Vocal technique- ear training and expanding vocal range
* Speech- articulation and projection
* Dance training
* Using emotional memory as a tool
* Taking creative risks
Mixed Age Groups:
The camp day is spent in mixed age groups (ages 5-16). We have found during our experience that when children are taken out of their exclusive peer group they often thrive and make huge creative leaps. This is why; when a younger child of seven or eight is around children a little older than she, she is far less likely to be caught up in the chaotic energy that often comes with exclusive groups of young children. Rather, she is more likely to be interested in what the older students are doing and wanting to model them. The same goes for our older students who are often likely to be caught up in the social model of what it is to look and act "cool". This can sometimes become a huge obstacle in their ability to let go, improvise and really enter a character. When the age group is mixed there is a far less likelihood of this happening. The older students will often take on a mentoring role with many of the younger students and thus the group dynamic becomes balanced and thrives!
