Hi, my name is Melissa and I appreciate you taking the time to learn more about my facility! After finishing my Masters degree in Teaching, Learning, and Curriculum Development in 2016, I decided I wanted to provide the type of childcare services Istruggled to find for my own children while working and going to school full-time for many years. It is my goal to provide the best childcare option for you and your children. In addition to our use of the High Scope math and Zoophonics curriculum, at The Lighthouse we focus on developing the whole child through engaging arts, science, and literacy lessons. We seek to foster a love of reading both fictional and non-fictional, age appropriate books to incite curiosity and build a strong reading foundation. Children also gain an early love of STEM subjects as they engage in hands-on, exciting activities and experiments that allow them to create, discover, hypothesize, and test their own theories. For school-aged children on a before and after school schedule, we offer daily robotics lessons using the LEGO Mindstorms Education NXT Platform as well as homework support. Our daily activities ensure children are exposed to a variety of age-appropriate toys and lessons that incorporate critical thinking skills and inquiry-based learning so they can explore and experiment at their own pace. Children are also given multiple opportunities each day to express themselves through music and movement, dramatic play, and outdoor play to develop social skills in a safe, loving environment .
