It was created in response to expressed community needs for additional after school care that is both superior in quality and affordable in price. The program is Christian in values but non-denominational. It stresses the values of responsibility, service, love, and care for each other, and acceptance of diversity. During the school year, the program is open to children in grades K-8. During the summer, the program is open to grades K-7. The activities offered by the After School Club fulfill a twofold need. For working parents, the program answers the question of where their child will be during the after school hours by providing a safe, stimulating environment. For the child, it fulfills the needs to be part of a group, to enjoy recreation, and to learn new skills. Participants in this program are in an environment which is structured and supervised, but provides opportunities for individual choice. Outdoor play is encouraged on the 10-acre site. There are times for snacks and homework, as well as arts and crafts, music, cooking, special enrichment programs, board games, service projects, and field trips. During daily reading time, the children read books of their own choosing, at their reading level. Each child is encouraged to bring a book with him or her, but there will always be a wide variety of reading materials available at the After School Club. Older children sometimes read to younger non-readers during this time, and the time is recorded by those older children who wish to turn in the minutes so spent for Y.E.S. (Youth Engaged in Service) credit in the Woburn Public Schools. We offer care a day at a time. Our after school, summer and drop in programs offer the flexibility that families need.
