Sunshine and Play Preschool is a licensed and insured part-time, in-home preschool catering to children ages 1-5 years old. The program incorporates what all young children need to thrive: 1) time outdoors 2) time to engage in self-driven, purposeful play. Each day offers an opportunity for children to engage in hands-on learning using Montessori and Reggio inspired materials to promote science, language, math, art, and music in an intentionally prepared indoor and outdoor environment. Ample outside time is a cornerstone of the program where children have the opportunity to explore various areas of the playground. There is a sand box, dirt box, music wall, pouring station, swing set, various loose part construction materials, and climbing dome. Moving indoors, children have various areas within the home to play and explore. The main area is where various fine motor development toys and materials focusing on concepts of language, math, and science. Based on my work in Early Intervention, the program is embedded with speech and occupational therapy techniques to assist in speech acquisition and body regulation. All behavior is seen as communication therefore no isolating punishment like time out or removal of rewards or activities are done to "fix behaviors". Positive Discipline is the technique used in the preschoool if families are interested in researching the method.
