Montessori School of Johns Island is an independent school located off Main Road on Johns Island in Charleston, South Carolina. The area is largely rural, but we are conveniently 5 to 10 minutes from West Ashley and James Island. We follow a Montessori philosophy of teaching, emphasizing independence, freedom within limits, and respect for a child s natural psychological, physical, and social development. Our programs are loosely organized by age. The Makin' Butterflies Program includes children from 18 months to 3 years (traditionally daycare age range), the Children's House Program includes ages 3 to 6 years (Preschool), and the Lower Elementary and Upper Elementary Programs include ages 6 to 12 years (kindergarten to middle school, K-7). We welcome all children from diverse communities, cultures, races, backgrounds, abilities, and religions. We have and maintain a program of tuition assistance in cases of financial need. At Montessori School of Johns Island the child is guided to think and discover. Our teachers are trained to observe when the child is ready to move on to new and more complex discoveries. Charles Towne Montessori is a 5-day per week program, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. We offer a half-day program for children under 5 years old (noon dismissal). CTM serves children ages 15 months to 12 years. The Montessori classroom house mixed ages, so our Toddler program has children ages 15 months to 3 years, our Primary program has children ages 3 to 6 years, and our Elementary program has children ages 6 to 12. We also offer early drop-off at 7:30 a.m. and after care until 5:30 p.m. for additional fees. We do offer a Summer Camp Program, but it is only available for enrolled students. As one of South Carolina’s oldest and most distinguished Montessori schools, Charles Towne Montessori School provides a comprehensive program educating children from young toddlers through the elementary years.
