Duke Grad, 780 Math SAT, MS In Math Learning & Teaching Available To Tutor Grades 5 & Above
When I was in high school, I worked during the summer as a part-time receptionist at a seasonal medical office. One of the other receptionists was studying to take her LSAT and kept some of her preparation books in the desk. I was bored one day and decided to look through them. Before I knew it, I was doing the Logical Reasoning questions for fun anytime there was a lull in patients. I truly enjoy taking standardized tests and have done well on the SAT (Verbal: 610, Math: 780), GRE (Verbal: 720, Quantitative: 780, Analytical: 800) and LSAT (169).
I am a certified teacher in New Jersey, where I taught mathematics for over 10 years (7 in independent schools). I have also worked in New Jersey as an in-home tutor for over 12 years for middle and high-school age children. Since I enjoy taking standardized tests, I started by working with students to improve their SAT scores. After a few years, I expanded to working with students who needed a little more help with various school subjects or help preparing for midterm and final exams. I will be working as the Elementary Mathematics Coordinator at a school on the UWS starting in the fall and I am looking to expand again to working with students in NYC. My current rates is $100/hour.
Ultimately, I teach and tutor because I love to learn. In fact, I earned my Master of Science in Mathematics Education in 2011. During tutoring sessions I work to motivate the students to become life-long learners also. I believe that excitement is contagious and many of the students that I have taught and tutored have improved both their understanding and their scores or grades and most importantly their confidence.
