About who needs care: My father is in hospice care for cancer of the tongue. He is getting weaker and more fatigues and needs to be helped sometimes to get in and out of bed, to get to his walker, to get to the bathroom.
Interests are bridge (he plays online), current events (he still reads the Washington Post and other newspapers and listens to the news), American History, Indian classical music, jazz ( he likes to listen to music).
Dad gets up at about 8 am, has tea and a cookie and pain meds and reads the paper. He then sometimes goes back to bed. He will get up and listen to CDs. He has a late breakfast (9:30-10:30), and watches CNN and MSNBC. He has lunch around 1:30-2. He will sleep after lunch. He sometimes needs liquid morphine if he is in pain. He will get up between 4 and 5, usually and be awake most of the evening, interacting with my mother and me, watching more news or playing bridge online. He has a light dinner around 8 p.m. He goes to bed any time between 9:30 and 11, depending on his level of fatigue.
About the care needs: Someone family-oriented, friendly and willing to listen would be a good fit. My parents are from India and very focused on family relationships, and they enjoyed traveling and eating different kinds of food, so they talk about those experiences.
Specialized skills: someone familiar with hospice care, helping an elderly person with personal care, helping to move them in and out of a hospital bed.
Services needed include: companionship, feeding, bathing / dressing, and mobility assistance.
