His lessons focus on the addressing student's needs and desires for their playing in a fun, relaxed environment. Whether the student is a beginner that has never touched a set of drums, or a professional that wants to broaden his playing spectrum, Kevin will work with the student to accomplish his or her goals. Beginners can count on learning valuable musical basics including reading, rudiments, and basic musical forms before learning songs of the student's choice, while more advanced students will have their curriculum tailored to their individual needs. Formal Education: Graduated from University of Alabama at Birmingham in 2009 with a Bachelor's degree in music Private Education: Kevin has studied with various local teachers in and around Birmingham, Alabama and Atlanta Georgia throughout his 13+ years of playing. The most notable of these teachers are Chris Fryar from the Zac Brown Band and Chris Burroughs from Russell Gunn's Elektrik Butterfly Band, both of whom he still studies with from time to time. Performing Experience: Beginning in 2006, when Kevin became an undergraduate student at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, He freelanced with dozens of bands and musicians in and around Birmingham, AL, whereheI played many different styles of music including, but not limited to, rock, hip-hop, pop, jazz, fusion, funk, blues, and country. He became one of the most in demand drummers in the city, until he moved to New York City in August of 2010. While in New York, Kevin freelanced, mostly in the jazz scene, acquiring two weekly gigs along with other ldquo;pick-uprdquo; gigs, which included jazz, RB and gospel styles of music. Kevin moved back to Birmingham, AL in August of 2011, where he resumed freelancing with bands of all different styles. Once back in Birmingham, he received a phone call for an audition with Nic Cowan, an artist on Zac Brownrsquo;s Southern Ground record label. He auditioned in September of 2012 and joined the band in October of 2012. The band has since toured the country and recorded an album in Nashville, TN. Over the span of his career, Kevin has had the opportunity to perform in Sevilla and Cali, Colombia and Muuml;nster, Germany, along with dozens of states in the U.S. " Experience Teaching: Fall 2007 ndash; July 2010 September 2011-October 2012 Bailey Brothers Music Company Birmingham, AL Percussion Instructor -Taught weekly drum set lessons at both of the companyrsquo;s Birmingham locations. Created a teaching program for students of all ages that kept students engaged and learning quickly and easily. September 2008 ndash; July 2010 September2011 - October 2012 Scrollworks/MYORCH Birmingham, AL Music Instructor -Taught drum set, jazz ensemble, and music appreciation courses through this non-profit organization to underprivileged children several days a week. The organization taught out of several different locations, including elementary schools, churches, and music venues. I was the most requested drum instructor at the organization by the end of my time with them. Private Instructor -In addition to both of these organizations, Kevin has been teaching drum set privately on and off since 2006.
