I enjoy supporting my community and building relationships with the families that I serve. I have people who have moved on, even moved to different states, who still send me postcards and updates. My program isn't about babysitting, it's about having a positive impact on children and their parents. Building relationships is priceless to me, as well as ensuring that the kiddos are taken care of - happy, learning, and having fun! What is NeighborSchools? I want to keep educating myself and incorporating the latest technology, lessons, and all of the new things that are coming out all the time about the development of children. I love helping the larger community within my home. I look forward to expanding my space over time and being able to teach many children over the years. We open at 7:30am and we begin the day with free play with a variety of toys. Then we clean up and wash hands and go potty before breakfast at 9am. We have a curriculum we follow to learn letters, numbers, colors, and shapes, before we go outside weather-permitting. We love to go out and be with mother nature whenever we can! After that, we come back in and wash up for snack time and prepare for circle time. We love circle time and reading stories. After that and some more free play, the children help with setting the table for lunch at noon, and help clean too. From 1 to 3pm we have nap time. For those children who don't rest, we have quiet play or we sit and chat quietly with each other. In the later afternoon we go outside once again weather-permitting and maybe go for a walk. Then we have puzzles, games, and singing until the kids have to clean up and get ready to go home for the night. It is a fun, packed day of learning and exploring for the children! There are many important aspects of Family Child Care to me. one is an engaging and development-oriented curriculum. This is enhanced by my learning of how to be a better educator. I am also incredibly attentive to healthy eating. I want to make sure the children are nurtured and that everyone is happy and smiling. I love that my program is family oriented. The children get the care and the love in a smaller group that they wouldn't necessarily be able to receive in a larger setting, yet the daycare center structure and philosophies are all still there. The program is usually bilingual between English and Spanish. The kids get to work with both languages, which gives them a huge advantage in life. I am very hands-on with the kiddos and love to play with them. We play music, we go on field trips, we do art, reading, and tons of engaging learning through play. For outdoor play, we go to the playground behind my home or the historical navy yard around the corner where the children can learn about history and also play in the water fountain in the summer. We're also partnered with an agency called Child Development that facilitates field trips for the kids as well. We'll go sometimes to the aquarium, go for picnics, and even involve parents in the trips too! We firmly believe that a busy kid is a happy kid! My favorite activity to do with the kids is art. I love working with different mediums and seeing how the children express themselves differently. I am so proud of everything they create! Something that is super important to me is nutrition. I love to cook and always prepare meals for the children that are healthy and filling. I even give parents food when they come to scoop their child up and they give me the best compliments! It makes me so happy to send the children home with a full belly. My overall mission is to provide the highest quality care that I can from the time they're enrolled in my program to the time they set off for school. I provide the educational resources plus the development in other areas, such as social and emotional, that the children need in order to be prepared for the future. And I do it all in the most fun way! When they go to kindergarten or preschool, I know they're all set and that they've developed a love for learning that will stay with them for years to come. At Patico's Home Daycare, I strive to let children feel the warmth and comfort of their own home. My nickname is Patico, which means duckling in Spanish. Ever since I was a little girl, I have always had a passion and love for other children. I was always the one taking care of and mentoring the other children in my family and neighborhood. I have always enjoyed, the lightness and silliness that children bring to life. I admire how the curiosity of a child's mind can bring everything into perspective and help us to see things differently. I truly cherish the wonder and magic children bring with them everywhere they go. Helping families raise their children is not a job for me, it is truly my calling. In my home, every child will have the opportunity to just be a child, something I feel our very fast paced world is losing. Every child will have a safe place to explore who they are and what they like. They will be guided towards a path of kindness and mindfulness of others and their surroundings. I'm a stay at home mom with one child in middle school, one in elementary school and an almost 2 year old. I have over 5 years experience working in residential facilities with troubled youth ranging in age from 5-18. I have been a Girl Scout leader for 4 years with girls starting at 6 years old and now 9-10 years old. I started watching children at 10 years of age and have never stopped. I've had countless babysitting jobs, watched my 4 nephews regularly as they grew up, and now have children of my own. I believe in letting kids play and explore fully in their environment with gentle guidance, allowing them to have experiential learning. I utilize a healthy mixture of structured activities along with free play to keep kids engaged and excited. When the weather is cooperative, time spent outdoors playing in a sandbox, on a play set, at a water table, or just laying around observing is an essential part of the day. I try to make even the task of cleaning up fun by singing a song, racing each other, doing it by colors, etc.
