Plus Talk

2004 Randolph Ave. Saint Paul, MN

5 mi

Hello there! So I decided to start my own little business as you may call it! My name is Susan Dickey and I graduated from Edina High School in 2012. I currently attend St. Catherine University and will soon be starting my Junior year here. I am majoring in psychology and minoring in criminology. My goals for the future are to eventually attend graduate school and to receive my Ph.D. in clinical psychology. I LOVE learning about how the mind works and being able to converse with professionals. Personally, I have struggled through depression and anxiety all throughout my teens in High School. I was also very self-conscious and insecure with myself. Over the last couple of years I have grown to love myself and try to live every moment to the fullest. I believe that High School is one of the hardest times in this journey we call life, and I think it is very important that people graduate High School with a new, fresh outlook on life. As I have said before, I love psychology; I have taken general psychology, abnormal psych, developmental psych, clinical psych, and statistics in psychology. The professors at St. Catherine University are absolutely phenomenal, which is why I love having the privilege of studying this discipline here. As I said at the beginning, I am an undergraduate student, so I AM NOT A PROFESSIONAL, however, I can refer you to them. What I want do is start working one on one with individuals ideally in their teens. Again, I cannot stress this enough, I am not a professional, so I do not engage in therapeutic practice. I am just simply here to help out individuals with self-esteem, self-motivation, confidence, or individuals who may think they have a mental illness and want a second opinion other than the parents'. Just to give a few examples, here are the kinds of people I would like to work with: ~girls with self-image distortions ~individuals with anger and aggression issues ~individuals with low self-esteem ~ Conflict issues ~girls with self-confidence issues ~shy kids looking to come out of their shells ~bullies, bully victims Those are just some of the people I am interested in working with. I believe that I have great communication skills and a strong ability to turn negative thinking into positive. I just really love it when I am talking to someone in distress and can feel their stress level decrease. I also like being there for individuals who don't have someone that they can trust and talk to. That is why my service is called "plus talk", because they will gain something with every visit.
